A good reminder30 Apr 2007 11:46 am

This post over at Rocks in My Dryer struck a chord, and I wanted to pass it on to y’all. It’s a good reminder about protecting and respecting our children’s privacy as we flit and post around this anonymous blog world. Happy reading.

Blood and guts30 Apr 2007 11:34 am

J demonstrated his fantastic brand of 5 year old common sense the other day when he plowed eagerly into a prickly evergreen bush to retrieve some beads he had deliberately thrown in there.  I watched from afar, wondering  when he would realize his folly. (more…)

What would happen if you stopped blogging?27 Apr 2007 12:12 pm

GUEST POST

This is a guest post by frequent commenter, Cheryl.  Of course, my answer to her question is that the sun would stop shining, the birds would become mute, and the world as we know it would end. But that’s just me.

An introduction to blogging by my aunt over a year ago created a spark in me. What? A way to express myself anonymously? Are you serious? Where do I sign up? (more…)

Omphalophobia25 Apr 2007 02:15 am

The birth of a belly button is a hallowed event. Six to twelve days after a baby is born the withered umbilical stump falls off and sweetie’s darling new button is revealed to the world. Up until this moment there is no guessing what it will look like. Genes seem to have no factor in whether the button is in innie, an outtie, oval or circle, craggy or smooth.

Guest post–Farewell to the Farewell24 Apr 2007 11:11 am

*NOTE ON GUESTS POSTS: If you have submitted one, and you haven’t heard from me, I am not ignoring you.  Ok, I am, but just for a sec.  I’ll get to you, I promise!

INTRO: c jane regularly blogs at cjanerun, except on Wednesday when she blogs for Segullah (see sidebar). She’s done this sort of guest blogging before at largerfamilies.com and Design Mom. Though she is not yet a Mommy, she is a Mormon, and reads about Wars in the Book of Mormon. Also sometimes she watches Star Wars. (But not as often as you would like to think.)

Back in the glory day of Mormon Pop Culture–the same decade when BYU won the National Football Title, someone wrote/produced “The Mormon Rap”, and denim jumpers were all the rage (for the love, please note: they are no longer)–there also existed the quintessential cultural phenomena of The Missionary Farewell. The paint fumes took my sense of humor23 Apr 2007 11:08 am

That’s the only explanation I can think of, really.  Because instead of laughing at the fact that my child’s room looks like some sort of Baskin Robbin’s experiment gone bad, it made me burst into tears. (more…)

Pretty in Pink20 Apr 2007 10:58 pm

I’m breaking my self-imposed hiatus because I have a problem. A big, red-headed, three-year old pink problem. While discussing this tonight with my DH, he wondered why I hadn’t posed the situation to y’all. Hmmm…. why, indeed?

So, Beanie, my middle son, seems to be a cross-dresser. A while back I recall a thread on another blog about letting boys wear girls’ shoes. Most of the moms were against it, but personally, I couldn’t care less about some sandals- my little problem transcends that. Beanie likes to go for the whole kit and caboodle. (more…)

Something Good18 Apr 2007 05:27 pm

Just a quick note to say that in all the yuckiness of the world, we have a chance to do something good.  Go check out Boomama’s fund raiser for Heather. And, to Heather, we say here at MMW God be with you.

A whispered conversation: “Honey, I think that couple has kissed 5 times now.  Oh, there’s number 6.”

“Weird.”

“AAAHH!  Seven!  I wonder if they’ll make it to 10!”

Now, I know you’re all wondering why it’s weird to see a couple kissing, and why I was slightly scandalized.  Well, it’s because we were in sacrament meeting at the time. (more…)

Hug your kids today17 Apr 2007 11:23 am

My neighbor who lives across the street has a daughter at Virginia Tech.  I don’t know if her daughter is all right or not after yesterday’s shooting.  My next door neighbors met and dated at Virginia Tech.  They brought “VT” cookies to the neighborhood Christmas party.  Virginia Tech is in Blacksburg, Virginia, near the picturesque Shenandoah.  It’s a quiet place.  It’s not a place you would think massacres happen.

So pray for those who have lost their loved ones, their children and friends who were supposed to be safe.  And hold your kids a little tighter today.

I’m off to talk to my neighbor.  She might need a hug or two herself.

This is another guest post from Kristy Steele.

We need to send out a national memo regarding baby showers and certain games that should never, EVER be played at them.

A note on spam13 Apr 2007 11:20 am

Some of you may have noticed that we have been getting quite a few spam comments lately.  Mostly, they have shown up on older posts, so, until we can get our filter upgraded, or whatever, I’m going to start closing comments on those posts.  If you find you have a burning desire to post a comment on some posts in the archive, feel free to email me, and I will post up your comment from here.

Thanks!

Walking on a thin pink line13 Apr 2007 10:30 am

This is a guest post from Kristy Steele, who has her own blog, Rabbit in the Headlights.

Pregnancy tests had to be invented by a man. If I’m wrong, sue me. But no woman I have ever met could take something as emotional as a pregnancy test and sum it up so simply with parallel shapes: two lines = pregnant; one line = not pregnant. I have taken my share of these tests over the last five years but have not come in contact with two lines since the results of my last child were manifest. That single line has wreaked havoc on my psyche for some time now, and I’m not interested in any more abuse. (more…)

WIPEOUT!11 Apr 2007 11:17 am

This is a guest post by the Mother of the Wild Boys.  I also wanted to say that with Sarah on her way to have her baby, The Wiz and Tracy M. in the midst of moving craziness, if y’all don’t want to spend all your time with little ‘ol me, we could use another guest post or two. You can reach me at heather at mormonmommywars dot com. Happy reading!

I went to visit a friend whom I hadn’t seen in some time.  I had already knocked when I realized that I had left something in my car.  She answered, and then waited for me in the doorway as I turned to trot down the driveway to my car.  I took 2 steps and then it happened… (more…)

This and that10 Apr 2007 01:47 pm

I ate a marble yesterday.  Well, ok, I didn’t swallow it, but I did put it in my mouth and try to chew.  Now, a normal person would have said, “My goodness, this isn’t a jellybean, it’s really a colored marble my son has tossed into his Easter basket.  Silly me!”  Not me.  No sirree.  I bore down real hard, thinking, “This is the freakin’ stalest gumball I’ve ever eaten.”  Good thing I have hard teeth. The Staten Island Fairy08 Apr 2007 04:29 am

We didn’t believe in the Easter Bunny growing up. Never even considered it. Santa Claus was an impossible myth for my parents to perpetuate with all of our older, wiser friends. But the tooth fairy? She was practically a member of the family. (more…)

Happy Easter07 Apr 2007 09:47 pm

Easter lily.jpg

For Christ also hath once suffered for our sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit…(1 Peter 3:18)

But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy…(1 Peter 4:13)

Hope you took some time to rejoice this Easter season.  Happy Spring, everyone.
