A big thanks to everybody who made the Nie Nie Auction Thursday a big success. Y’all rock. I will be contacting the winners of the items with information about payment, and I will need shipping addresses for everybody. (No stalking, I promise.)
Also, I just thought everybody should know that I cut off all my hair today, and instead of a long, 14 “ ponytail (yeah it was long), I am now sporting a bob. My son came in from playing outside and just stared at me. My baby didn’t seem to care. My head feels way too light.
That is all.

…..is what about 8 of you are thinking. And it has come to my attention that people do not check their email as obsessively as I do, therefore you have to deal with me, but that’s OK, because this is my blog (sort of).
OK, CARS. COOL. (more…)

My life is very busy, but not necessarily all that complicated. I have four kids ranging from 5 to 14 (which means I dropped one at kindergarten this year and one at high school for her freshman year). I have the usual craziness: pick ups, drop offs, football, piano, scouts, YW, PTA, church callings, etc. All very busy, but manageable. (more…)

For those of you who don’t know, today is Auction Thursday! This is the day where we all pull together to raise money for Stephanie. On Saturday, August 16, 2008, Stephanie Nielson was in a plane crash with her husband, Christian Nielson, and his flight instructor, Doug Kinnear, near St. Johns, Arizona. Doug Kinnear passed away soon after arriving at the Maricopa County Hospital. Christian & Stephanie remain in critical condition at Maricopa Burn Center. . You can learn more here.
Here’s how this works. Peruse through the following posts, and decide what item you would like to bid on. Here’s what we’ve got:
Diaper Bag, by Tracy M
A This is Me Journal, by Carrie Lundell
A scarf dress, nicknamed “The Nie Nie Dress”, also by Carrie Lundell
Christmas CD, by Kristy Glass
Handmade Thank You and Birthday cards, by Kristie
Burp Cloth, Scrub pants, and matching onesie, by Spongy Feet
Bid in the comments. The auction will close Friday, Aug 29th, at 5pm. Then, the winner will send me an address and payment via Pay Pal. We will forward all proceeds to the Nie Nie Recovery Fund, and get the products out to the winners ASAP. Okay, that’s it. Have fun!
For a list of other auctions going on today, please visit Design Mom.And, on behalf of everybody here at MMW and Tales from the Crib, who have offered most of the items today (and have better pictures of the goods), we offer our humble thanks.

Carrie went looking for the perfect journal for her school-aged child. When she couldn’t find it, she invented one herself! A perfect way to preserve memories of your little ones, this journal is sure to bring smiles for years to come. Seriously, a totally awesome keepsake, and makes a great gift to the kid who has too many toys. See more of Carrie’s work at This Mamma Makes Stuff. Carrie is also offering a set of archival colored pencils with the journal.

The Nie Nie Dress. Perfect for any little girl who wants to look hip. Refashioned from a vintage scarf and crocheted doily, it’s creative, fashionable, and modest all in one. Tank size 2T but could probably be worn by size 3T (length to shortest point on skirt 21″. length to longest point on skirt 27″, chest 16″, stretches to 24″) You can find more info at This Mama Makes Stuff.
NOTE FROM CARRE: Scarf is old and has some wear and age stains. I like to think this gives it some refashioned soul. Also, the scarf skirt is not lined. I suggest bloomers, or even pants to be worn under the dress.

I was a “gifted child”. I got to stay after school and attend special classes to learn extra things as part of the ”gifted and talented” program, so that PROVES it. Also I had glasses at a young age. (more…)

Items to be auctioned include A This is Me journal by Tftc Carrie, something fabulous by our own Tracy M, and some other fun stuff from folks around the bloggernacle. So, look for that. Thanks!

Lots of people use blogs to keep in touch with family and friends, share milestones, and preserve memories for the family’s history. You can even get your blog pages printed now! It seems to all the rage to blog about your bits and pieces. You know when things are all the rage because they get satired.
So not too long ago a friend of mine returned from a cross-country trek to see family - their little family traveled by air, which can be a nightmare. As I was blog hopping one day I landed upon an account of their trip. The depiction of the journey was a sunny one. The toddler was given a rather glowing review. Phrases like “good job” and “did well” were used. (now imagine that sound where a needle scratches across a record). (more…)

At MMW, we know many of you have spouses or family in the military; we are also aware that supporting our Troops means more than wearing a lapel pin- but often, we really just don’t know what to do. Here, Mo Mommy, wife of a deployed serviceman, mother of three, MMW reader and member of the LDS church, offers her point of view on some real things individuals can do to help families who are facing the prolonged separation and stress deployment brings. Feel free to comment or add other ideas you might have. (more…)

Project Runway Recap:
(OK, so I’m a day late and a dollar short. You get what you pay for around here! Was someone besides me supposed to write the recap this week?)
So, considering the subject matter, how was it possible this show was so TAME? I mean, really, drag queens! Can you imagine what Santino or Christian or even Chris March would have done with these, er, ladies? And for those of you wondering, when refering to a drag queen, you use the pronoun appropriate for the way he/she is dressed. At least according to my gay cousin… and the many Halloween celebrations I attended in the Castro in my pre-church days- but we don’t talk about that. (more…)

Then: While on our honeymoon, I asked my new husband to grab me a soda from the cooler. He did, but before giving it to me, he popped it open and took a big swig. I hate it when he does that, but expressed myself in the most loving and giving and oh don’t we love each other so much tone. We had a long discussion, complete with buzz words like “respect”, “putting you first”, and I even think “love language” was tossed around. It ended with hugs and kisses.
Now: Last night, DH tried to dunk his cookie in my milk. I slapped his hand away and said, “Dude. Leave my milk alone.” (more…)
Comment Moderation19 Aug 2008 10:17 am
By The Wiz
It has come to my attention that some people’s comments have gone into moderation and are requiring approval before appearing on the site. I still don’t know why. They weren’t trying to sell us drugs or porn or anything!
It’s only a few comments here and there, and it’s not a huge problem, but if your comment doesn’t appear right away, please don’t panic. It could be technical difficulties, or that your comment has the word ‘viagra’ in it.
I haven’t banned any of you. But don’t think I won’t. Because I so can.
And also, if you have 3 links or more in your comment, it automatically goes into moderation, so if you have a lot of links to share, you can either do it in one comment and wait for it to be approved, or spread them out over multiple comments, thereby making us look more popular.
You may now return to regularly scheduled programming.

Dear FlyLady-
We need to talk. Yes, we do. I know we’ve been together for a while, but, well, things just aren’t working for me anymore, dear. You may think it’s just stinkin’ thinkin’, and that I need to really Finally Love Myself a little more, but really, the bottom line is this. You’re smothering me, babe, and I need a little space.
