I read a novel a while back where the heroine was overweight. This would not be a big deal, except she talked about it CONSTANTLY. It was getting a little old, actually.
Anway, there was a scene in which her new boyfriend took her jogging, which she hated. (more…)

…you know, in a superficial, “it’s not REAL happiness” kind of way. But it could be love. I just know it.
(I went to the beauty supply store yesterday with someone who actually has a cosmetology license, and mooched off her and bought a whole bunch of stuff wholesale.) (more…)

Just a quick link for everybody about this candy that has tested positive for melamine, the substance that is at the heart of the milk-tainted crisis in China. You can read more about it here. Have a safe Halloween, everyone.

Last week was one of those weeks. You know, those weeks where you look at your kids and think, “Who ARE you people?” (more…)

Why does anyone need a $50,000 Swarovski chandelier in their house? (From Top Design, I haven’t actually been watching the show, but I saw this one. The chandeliers freaked me out, baby. Big time). (more…)

Click here to buy CJane’s book.
For all of y’all who love CJane, and who have been affected by her sister’s critical situation, here is another gem for you to collect, and help Stephanie and Courtney at the same time. Enjoy It! is a collection of blog posts in book form from the blog CJane Enjoy It, and this stuff is just as fun to read the second time around. It’s also a good chance for anybody who is coming into this story late, and wants to catch up! It is available through Lulu press, which means that most of the money will go directly to benefit Stephanie Nielson and her family, who are working so hard to keep everything together. So go check it out, and, well, enjoy it!

We’re meeting with the school speech therapist on Monday. Turns out they noticed Little Man’s issues in kindergarten too! You mean they didn’t evaporate over the summer break? What’s up with that? (more…)

Let’s pretend you get a new dog. Let’s pretend you want to do the responsible thing and get him neutered. So you go to the vet, who checks him out and tells you he has horrible periodontal disease but other than that, he’s good. He says to make the neutering/teeth cleaning appt for next month, to give your new dog a chance to acclimate to his new environment. (more…)

Little Sister and I were outside this afternoon, playing with the hose.
“Unh?”
Me, “You want to go in? Okay, let’s go inside.”
I pick her up, she screeches, flailing like a dying fish. I bring her in, put her down, and she throws herself on the floor, bonking her head on the wood, which sets off fresh wails. (more…)

For Latter Day Saints, is good health a privilege?
(I know, y’all are thinking, “Um, what?” But just humor the crazy lady and let’s talk about, kay?)

For all of you who are wondering what Pres. Packer REALLY has to say, it was told to us today by our Stake President, in ward conference, that our bishop was singled out by Pres. Packer at a meeting this weekend. Pres. Packer asked our bishop what most concerned him about his ward, and the bishop answered that he was concerned at the fear that the families in our ward had expressed about the coming months, with such hard economic times on the horizon. Our Stake President reported that Pres. Packer said that this is not a time to fear, that great good can come from such trials and adversity.
So there.

At Deseret Book, University Mall at 2 pm TOMORROW. We are celebrating The Mother in Me, as well as doing a great fundraiser for Nie Nie. All profits earned from the sales of The Mother in Me that day go directly to the Nie Nie Recovery Fund. There is going to be chocolate treats, poetry, and lots of really, really interesting and exciting writers. The book has some of the best writing I’ve ever seen on motherhood, and it will make you smile and think, “Oh, yeah. I’ve totally been there”.
I’ve already voiced my very vocal whine that I won’t be able to be there, and hope that everybody who has a chance will make the effort.
Thanks!

I was told tonight that at a recent Stake Conference in California, Pres. Uchtdorf said that in the near future, our children will have to get used to eating one meal a day.
Anybody care to comment on this as fact or fiction? Sounds fishy to me, but my source said, “That’s what he said….”

1. If you want your collection to appear ‘cohesive’ make it all the same color. (Is it too much to ask for something more than aqua, white, and beige?)
2. Don’t mouth off to Tim Gunn, because he just might be your guest judge after all. (I really do think he was impartial, though.)
3. Weird leafy things in your hair are distracting.
4. Be aware of what other designers are doing, or you just might ‘copy them accidentally.’ A lot. (more…)

I know a lot about swallowing. It sounds weird, I know, but swallowing is actually kind of complicated, and, well, kind of important. It’s one of the first instincts that you develop in utero, and it’s one of the first indicators that your life is near its end. I’ve been consulted on a lot of death beds, because when people stop swallowing, they don’t have long to live. It’s just one of those circle of life kind of things. (more…)
