The road to . . . H-E-double hockey sticks29 Apr 2009 03:44 pm

They say that the road to you know where, is paved with good intentions.  That being so, I’m well on my way.  Each year I have every intention of getting a card off for the birthdays of all friends and family.  So far this year …0.   I’ve been meaning to collect my photographs and get them is some sort of organized form.  I’ve been meaning to organize and file away the stack of stuff  on my desk and put it in my currently empty file cabinet.  I’ve been meaning to sort through some of the boxes in the basement and throw out things like old college notebooks.  Like I said, I’m well down that road.  The heart is well intentioned, but …. A Title That Brings No Spammers At ALL28 Apr 2009 11:52 am

I have sporadic internet access, as I sit here and get blood pulled, and drugs put in, and vital signs taken.  I mean, they let me use their internet, but it’s a “pseudo-internet” that blocks all streaming video, which includes Hulu and thus makes it impossible for me to watch continuous Buffy episodes while I wait.  Season 3 waits for me at home, and I believe the DVD’s are mocking me from afar.  (more…)

Oink Oink!!27 Apr 2009 04:27 pm

The global alert for Swine flu is now phase 4 according to the WHO.

Are you taking precautions?  Are you concerned?  I’m a little freaked out, frankly.  My 72 hr kit can help me in certain emergencies, but I don’t have blue face masks or a stock pile of Tamiflu in any of our bags.

My husband travels to LA this week – I’m seriously thinking of sending him with a surgical mask to wear on the airplane.  He probably won’t wear it, though.

AWOL Mama Checking In26 Apr 2009 11:03 pm

Hi everyone. I’ve been so AWOL I bet we have readers who don’t even know who I am. I need to apologize to my co-bloggers and give them some big loves (not Big Love) for being so kind and so forgiving of my utter laziness and slackerishness. Oh yes, that is a word. At least in the Blogger’s Unabridged Dictionary it is. (more…)

Blatant Prayer Request22 Apr 2009 12:12 pm

I am diabetic.  Have I mentioned that lately?  What?  Only obsessively?  OK then.

Anyway, tomorrow I am headed up to Utah again to get experimental drugs. I will be gone for 2 weeks. I have been accepted into a study that gives an immuno-suppressant drug to newly diagnosed diabetics, with the end result (hopefully) being that my immune system stops attacking my pancreas, thus enabling me to continue making the little bit of insulin that I am producing.  This, in turn, would lead to much better blood sugar control, not to mention a much longer “honeymoon” period.  (more…)

I have a pair of blue scrubs that are magic.  Come read about them at By Common Consent.

And I took my post from yesterday down.  Sorry, I’m not up for stalkers.

My favorite part of last week -

“Do you want some advice?”

“Yes!”

“Then I suggest you start a blog with an interactive comments section.”

(And if you can’t read the first one, it says ‘I believe the appropriate metaphor here involves a river of excrement and a native american water vessel without any means of propulsion.’  Awesome. Oh Sheldon, my moonpie.)

The last one was for my engineer husband.  Smooches, babe.

Confessions of a Couponer20 Apr 2009 11:29 am

I’m guest posting over at BCC for the next week or so. Thanks to Steve Evans for the lovely invite. Today we’re talking about coupons. Come on over and tell me what you think of this whole couponing kerfuffle. Or is it a kerfluffle? I never know….

GUEST POST: Just because I play the piano doesn’t mean I can’t be a killer Relief Society teacher, too!17 Apr 2009 09:59 am

This is a guest post by Terrah

I started playing the piano when I was 5 years old. I played all growing up, in YWs, taught piano lessons in high school, the whole bit. I really like playing the piano! But for the last 5 years, the only callings I’ve had a music related…. organist, Primary pianist (twice), RS pianist. That’s it! In fact, in my whole life (I’m 30), I can count on one hand the callings I’ve had that have not been music-related. (more…)

On Living Near Family16 Apr 2009 10:40 am

I don’t have a lot of time right now, but I want to start a discussion I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, and if my thoughts are not clever or whatever, well then, sue me. I’ve got to get a kid dressed and to kindergarten, not to mention get myself showered, all in 20 minutes. (I can SO do it. I’ve done it in half that time, but I don’t like it. I hate to feel rushed in the shower.)

So - quick question - do you live near your family? Do you love it? Do you hate it? Can you NOT live without them nearby? Can you ONLY live with them far away? And how did you figure all this out? (i.e. They drove you crazy, so you moved, only to miss them terribly and move back.)

I had little anecdotes and example stories, but I postponed blogging this morning, and now I’ve got to run.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

C’mon, I know you have them.  I want to hear about all the dirt you ladies write in your journals. Come share over at The Red Brick Store .

These boots were made for walkin’13 Apr 2009 06:03 pm

There is an adage that says, “the best form of exercise is one you actually DO” or something to that affect.  Normally, I walk about 3.5 miles every morning after my kids are off to school, or before my husband is off to work.  My friend, Fran, walks with me.  We live in a wonderful, “walking-friendly” neighborhood, with lots of hills and trees.  I love to walk.  (more…)

I Had to Post Something.11 Apr 2009 12:00 pm

Hit a deer on the way home last night.  3 of them jumped right in front of me, and I MOSTLY missed, leaving the deer MOSTLY alive.  Seriously, a little fur flew, but then he got up and jumped away.  No car damage, and I’m fine, thank you for asking.  I got a little shaky, but you would too.  Don’t judge me.

And while I was writing this, this is what my husband was doing.  Feel free to judge him.

Being That Kind of Woman09 Apr 2009 09:14 am

With my aunt’s passing, her children are, sooner or later, going to have to go through her house.  I don’t know if my uncle will continue to live there or not, but regardless, at some point, somebody has to go through all her stuff.

And, of course, being the morbid person that I am, it has got me thinking about what somebody would think if I died and they had to go through my stuff.

And, of course,  if people went through my stuff, they would realize what kind of woman I am.

And I don’t want to be “that” kind of woman. (more…)
