Well, obviously the blogging here has taken a turn for the non-existent. Apparently summer is kind of busy. Or laziness-inducing. Or whatever. But I have some thoughts. So here I spew.
The other day I was deeply disturbed by the state of the world. I had been watching a BBC documentary about brothers and sisters who grew up apart, but met as adults, KNOWING they were siblings, who were married and/or living as couples. “Genetic sexual attraction” it was called. It disturbed me. (more…)

Well, not exactly like her. I just want to look like her. Well, not exactly look like her. I just want her arms. (more…)

The request seemed simple enough, “Are you willing to sit with a young girl in the hospital for a few hours for one or more days during her stay? They need volunteers beginning ASAP to sign up for shifts to help ensure this little girl is watched adequately while in the hospital over the next week or so. You will not need to provide any hands-on care, but just sitting in the room to watch over her.” (more…)

It’s Memorial Day! A day different from all the others….somehow.
I don’t have any relatives or friends buried near here, so visiting the graves is out. I do miss that. (more…)

I’m a Goodreads.com stalker. I love this website. I have more books listed “to-read” than I could possibly read in a lifetime…but I love adding books to my list! My favorite Sunday afternoon activity (did I just admit this publicly?) is perusing the NYTimes Book Review and my local library’s monthly Book Page. Two literary publications I couldn’t live without. (more…)

In honor of the fact that I finally watched HSM 3 last night with my girls, and yes, I found it somewhat lacking in good quality movieness, I give you this:

Dear Mormon Mommy Wars:
A friend of mine at church is preparing to move herself, her husband, a seven-year old, a four year-old and a (nursing) babe-in-arms approximately 1300 miles.
I’ve already offered her my collection of boxes and taken the two oldest for a “do whatever Mum wants day.”
I’d like to give her something to take on the trip, like one of those mini-facials from the drug store: some small, easy to use, easy to carry treat for herself.
I realize that everyone has different tastes, but I thought I’d ask you experienced moms for your opinions on what would be the most useful and welcomed kind of treat.
Thank you for your help!

I have a new toy and something else to be neurotic about. What fun. Come read about it at Segullah .

As I proportioned perfectly sized cookies with my medium sized ice cream scoop for FHE treats last night, I wondered how I could possibly bake cookies without it. I also wondered about the other kitchen tools I can’t live without — here is my list: (more…)

Ants.
Ticks.
Car repairs.
That pretty much sums up my day.
I’m thinking about going to bed early, because after all that, the rest of the day is pretty much just a wash. Tomorrow has to be better, right? Of course, there will still be the matter of the expensive car repairs. And nothing makes you feel poorer than trying to come up with money to pay for a car you hate to run for a limited amount of time before the next major meltdown. Lovely.
Hmmm..maybe I’d better go to bed for a week.

Hat tip to my friend Sariah, who, if truth be told, I was going to name my daughter after. I love the name Sariah, and I love my friend. My family talked me out of it, though. I’m still not sure I’m okay with that…. (more…)

I’m on a lower dose of insulin now. Ssshhh……
I don’t want to say too much, because I’m now paranoid about jinxes, but there’s some good news on the house selling front. Ssshhh…..
I mean, hey, it’s been a year. I should see some news! Oh, wait. Ssshhh…. (more…)

I’m contemplating buying a new pair of walking/running shoes…is there a big difference between REALLY expensive New Balance shoes and REALLY cheap Target-brand running shoes? ‘Cuz I’m staring at a pair of both on my floor and I can’t really tell the difference. Even when I walk around in them. Maybe if I ran, I would need the extra arch support to protect my knees, ankles and feet from the PSI my oversized body would inflict on my poor joints…but surely walking doesn’t have the same affect? Does it? (more…)

My oldest turned 10 today. I weep a little. And even though this blanket (modeled by Grandma) is a little older, I think it’s safe to say that it has been well loved for the past 10 years. If it survives, it will be well loved for the next 10. And the next, and the next. Possibly she’ll give it up when she’s 40, but hey, no promises. (more…)

I’ve joined the multitude of individual bloggers…you can find me here.
That way I have a place to talk trash about Gwyn and Oprah (just kidding!) and a venue to unload my obsession with college football in the fall.
I hope you will visit!

This is a post I wrote a while ago- but I can’t say it any better today than I did then… Here’s to all you mamas- Happy Mother’s Day…

I’m feeling rather soft and squishy about my children tonight. Somedays I feel I am the one learning and they are the teachers. Not necessarily the older wiser teachers, but the harder, tough teachers that you never forget the lessons you learn from. Ever had any of those? I’ve got three of them here under my own roof.
