Well, with The Wiz AWOL for medical reasons, I though I might put up a recap. Only… I fell asleep last night during Project Runway and I don’t have a DVR! I did manage to catch most of Top Chef on Wednesday- so we can talk about that.
Top Chef: Kevin may be giving the Brothers Voltaggio a run for their money. They may be fancier and use higher techniques, but Kevin repeatedly delivers really good food, without the bells and whistles. Or the attitude. And my heart aches for Jennifer- she rocks and she’s been falling apart- seems like her nerves are getting the best of her, and I don’t want to see that. I’ve loved her consumate professionalism and unshakability up till now, and it makes me sad to see her rattled. Come on, Jen! You can do it! (more…)

My son has just recovered from the flu. We don’t know if it was H1N1, but for all practical purposes, we treated it as such. After 6 days of being sick, he’s back in school, a little grumpy still, but otherwise seemingly healthy.
Now it’s just a matter of when people will start associating with us again. (more…)

George Clooney, with his salt and pepper hair, is considered the Sexiest Man Alive.
Brad Pitt, with his salt and pepper beard, is considered the Sexiest Man Alive.
Me, with my salt and pepper hair, I’m considered old, dowdy, and frumpy (ok, maybe it’s because I wear mom jeans and has absolutely nothing to do with my hair color). (more…)

Hey Mamas. I know a few of you keep up with me over at Dandelion- but more than a few do not. You’ve followed me on my motherhood journey through hellacious pregnancies, unmedicated birth, lactation woes, the pain of long-term unemployment and the uncertainty of my future- and wow, that’s a lot woes!- there has been some good mixed in, right? My Target tales always got a laugh? Remember when Elvis Cow peed in my car? Or when Beanie hid under the bed with a pound of butter? Ah, yes…
So now I embark on a new journey. Three weeks ago, on my birthday no less, I filed for divorce.
I’ll just let that hang in the air for a few… (more…)
Off We Go22 Oct 2009 02:09 pm

I’m off to get infused with experimental drugs again. I am soaking up the last bit of sunshine before I descend into 50 degree weather.
Since the last time, my insulin dose is close to half of what it was. My C-peptide levels are up. These are good things.
So help me out and throw a prayer or two my way, especially for my family, and that we all stay healthy and strong (the flu, for example, would be disastrous.) So think healthy thoughts, send healthy vibes, and PRAY.
Thanks.
Attempting to Paint21 Oct 2009 10:38 am

Instead of finding a white dresser for my girls’ room, I have decided to (gulp) paint their existing dresser white and change out the hardware. Cheaper? Yes. Uglier? Possibly. Disaster? Likely. Am I going to do it anyway? Yes. (see:cheaper).
But, I need help, since I have never done anything like this before (which I know surprises you). Anyone have experience with painting furniture? Is spray paint the way to go, or is it the devil and I should run far, far away from it? Do I have to get a special primer? Do I NEED primer? Am I crazy?
Here is a picture of the dresser in its current condition:

Of course, it doesn’t lean over weirdly, like this picture would suggest. Hey, I’m not opening a photography business anytime soon.
At least one of you knows how to do this. This I know.

Come tell me how you handled it, over at Segullah.

Today, October 20th, has been designated by a Senate Resolution as the National Day on Writing.
So in honor of this day – blog, write a letter, write a journal entry, twitter, or write a comment on your favorite blog. Or go read your favorite author, columnist or blogger. Can I recommend our own Tracy M’s personal blog — because the girl can write!
I have sick kids today (When is it considered the flu? When temps are higher than 104? Geesh…when will this ever end!), so I think I will honor writing day by starting a new book. The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Bronte has been calling my name.
How will you celebrate??!!

I took a vacation this weekend. It. Was. Awesome. Just me and the husband at the beach. This was a trip that has been a long time in the planning, and it was perfect.
We had a great time. We laughed, we talked, we ate seafood. And we slept. And slept. And slept. (more…)

You know, if I ever wanted to use this blog as a tool for posterity, them looking back on a bunch of Top Chef and Project Runway reviews might be a tad…useless. But hey! There is a show to discuss. (more…)

I officially earned the “Homer Simpson” award today.
After loading the three kids, myself and every bag, snack, scripture, book, lesson manual, tablecloth, notes, crayons, and visual aid into the car (DH was long gone to morning meetings), I drove happily out of the driveway proud that I was on time – and even EARLY for church.
Three and half hours later, as we drove back in, I noticed…the front door was WIDE OPEN! Ugh!! Not only did I forget to lock the door – I didn’t even SHUT IT! My DH surveyed the house “just in case.” Luckily, all was well and as we left it.
The biggest problem – the temperature has dropped 30 degrees in the past 48 hours and the house was FREEZING! And I can’t turn on the furnace until next Wednesday when the maintenance man comes to service the unit. So, we’ve all got on our warm fuzzies and had hot chocolate and marshmallows.
But next time I leave the door open, I really wish someone would at least come in and CLEAN!

I will say this. This was not a boring episode. And this is actually quite the flattering picture, considering what a hot mess those pants were. They’re not showing the bottom. Logan loves to make gray pants that look nasty. And yet, they keep him around!! Wha? It’s not like the top makes up for it. And how much of that is wedding dress? 20%? Boo. (more…)

What? The title is over the top? I just really like Top Chef. So sue me.
It must be said. What was that green thing Padma was wearing? Ack. (more…)

My kids are in the second week of fall break, a 3 week break that is possibly one week too long. I love my children, but the school is calling my name. Hey, I never pretended to be Nie Nie. (And if you didn’t cry during her Oprah appearance, than you are either made of stone, or don’t watch Oprah.) (more…)

So, I never got around to talking about last week. But Ramon made a weird reptile thingy and it was not in the vein of “hot green aliens that Captain Kirk would like to get freaky with”…so auf we go. I like Ramon, but that was baaaaaaaaaaaad.
OK, so now we have the MOST COLORFUL CHALLENGE EVER!!! (more…)
