The Book? She is Available!29 Mar 2011 02:49 pm

Booyah! It’s up, and it’s available! Check out the Leisure Arts website, where you can order a copy or check your local Hobby Lobby, Michaels or JoAnn Fabrics… all are supposed to by carrying it. From the website:

Seasons and Reasons to Celebrate (Leisure Arts #5266) by Tracy McKay gives quilters lots of ways to celebrate with this collection of 6 seasonal wall hangings. Each features fun fusible appliques of animals, flowers, and trees, and one celebrates all 12 months. Several of the little quilts have a scattering of pieced blocks, while buttons and basic embroidery stitches add cheerful details. What a great way to use up scraps! 6 projects to piece, applique, and embroider: Hallelujah Nativity, Autumn Prairie, America the Beautiful, The March Hare, Bee Industrious, and Let It Snow. Pattern inserts feature full-size patterns for easy tracing.

I’m just tickled pink about this whole thing! Look for a giveaway later this week, too. Thank you all for your love!

My face hurts.29 Mar 2011 08:07 am

Only on one side, though. Right under and around my eye, and down my cheeks to my jaw. I was cupping it in pain yesterday, and I felt like The Phantom of the Opera.

My teeth hurt, too. It’s hard to chew on that side, and add to that the 3 canker sores I have on the OTHER side of my mouth, and you can imagine what I looked like trying to eat the pizza DH brought home when, at 4:30pm, I called to inform him that I was dying.

I’ve been battling a nasty bear of a cold for over a week now, and I fear I have a sinus infection. I’ve never had one of those–this is new territory for me. It feels better today (as in, I can actually stand up and lean forward without pain—not much forward, though), but I’m wondering if I should go to the doctor, or just wait it out.

So, has anybody had a sinus infection before? Is it something you wait out, or do I have to drag my sorry carcass and my small child to the doctor, where all kinds of other germs lay in wait to assault my family? We’ve been fairly doctor free (well, the kids have, anyway) this winter, and it would be great if we could keep that habit alive.

So hit me with your best sinusitis stories, ladies. And I’ll even tell you the color of my snot:thick, creamy yellow with pink tinges of blood (although today the snot had lots more blood) so you won’t feel shy about sharing. I know, I’m SO good to you.

Overheard at our house27 Mar 2011 10:25 am

“Can you feed the dog, please?”

“What?  He even gets fed on FAST SUNDAY?”

“Yes, yes he does.”

(Our ward is fasting today before general conference instead of the week after. YMMV.)

I’m officially old, I guess.24 Mar 2011 01:33 pm

“Bye bye boys!!  Have fun storming the castle!!”

Today is the second time in recent weeks where I have said that and the person looked at my blankly. ”What….?” I guess I am old, or that movie needs to be re-released.  And not in a “remake”, just send the whole thing back to the screen exactly as it is.  Maybe put interviews on the DVD or something.

That is all.

Top Chef Cooks Death Row Meals24 Mar 2011 09:56 am

What - these chefs are dying?  They all killed somebody, and now they’re headed for the chair?  Because, honestly, who gets to choose their “last meal” except for death row inmates?

Still — very fun. (more…)

And The 10 Commandments Are….22 Mar 2011 04:09 pm

Last night because we didn’t want to plan FHE, we just went around in a circle to see if our kids could name all 10. (in no particular order) Behold.

Child #1: One God.  No Gods before me.

Child #2: Thou shalt not kill.

Child #3: Don’t say “Holy Crap.”

I don’t really know where he got that, since I say holy crap all the time. I guess I should repent.

Momma’s sick day21 Mar 2011 05:46 pm

I’m sick. So I took the day off. I spent it watching back episodes of Bones. Which I could pretty much do any day of the week, sick or not, just to watch David Boreanaz. What can I say, the man is smokin’. (more…)

I Am Talking About Top Chef Now17 Mar 2011 03:33 pm

Dude.  The gimmicks!!!  Still??  Dive for your own conch and then cook it on the beach?  This should be in the middle of the season - not the finale.  *groan*  But I guess there are 2 more episodes, so this isn’t technically the finale. (more…)

Old and creaky16 Mar 2011 07:40 am

I have tendonitis in my hamstring. Or that’s what the doctor thinks. I have an appointment with a physical therapist this week for a full evaluation. I’m not looking forward to it. I try to avoid medical things as much as possible, not because I distrust doctors, but because my life is full of them. When it’s a life requirement to see a doctor every 6 months, it makes it a lot harder to voluntarily make an appointment for other stuff.

The result of my procrastination is that I’m in a fair amount of pain, and can’t really do much running. This is too bad, not only because the weather is finally getting to the point where running outside doesn’t feel like a punishment, but because I have recently discovered that when it comes to maintaining the shape of me, I have to do more. It takes more effort to keep the same results. I work harder, and often, I accomplish less.

I think that means I’m old.

With regards to cabbage15 Mar 2011 03:17 pm

I was in the grocery store today, and got stuck in a line. No big deal, I wasn’t in a hurry or anything. I spent my time patiently (and that’s not even sarcasm) explaining to my daughter why we weren’t going to buy the $4 tub of lipgloss, so I was distracted by the time the checker finally got around to ringing up my stuff. When I finally convinced Little Sister to put the lipgloss back, I looked up to make eye contact with the checker, and no joke, she looked me directly in the eye, gave me a nice big customer service grin and said, “I just LOVE cabbage!”

I swear I am not making this up. (more…)

Japan13 Mar 2011 04:33 pm

Well, SOMETHING had to get everybody to stop talking about Charlie Sheen, it was just terrible that it had to be a devastating tsunami in Japan.  Once again, you can text “redcross” to 90999 to donate $10 to relief efforts.

I really don’t know what else to say.  It’s just so terrible. It seems so trite and inadequate to say “my thoughts and prayers are with them” but it’s absolutely, 100% true.  I was in the temple yesterday, and I added some names to the prayer roll of people I know, but since I don’t know anybody personally who is there right now, I didn’t know what to write - “entire country of Japan”  “entire city of Sendai” seemed a little….wrong.

(Speaking of the temple, the new “Carinessa II” garment tops are over the top fantastic.  If you like the carinessa bottoms, you will LOVE these tops.  The shoulders actually stay in place, and they are very long. If you don’t like the bottoms or any spandex in your garments, you might want to skip these.  But I am in love.)

I guess I should get those 72 hour kits updated…..and hope they help if I happen to come in contact with a WALL OF WATER.  I am just still in shock, as I guess everybody else is too.  Stay safe, everybody.  And please consider donating.

So There’s This Book Coming Out08 Mar 2011 09:49 pm

(This post is actually by Tracy M.  For some reason she can’t post pictures, so I put this up for her.  Rest assured she is the awesomely creative one around here.)

cover.jpgSome things take a long time to incubate. Elephants, for example. Two years of pregnancy begets one an elephant. Well, that and being of the pachyderm persuasion- but I digress. It apparently takes almost that long to grow a little book too. (more…)

Old dog, new tricks?07 Mar 2011 11:52 am

When I was 15, I lived in Switzerland for the summer. It was life-changing. My German went from bad highschool stumbling to conversational level. My view of the world was turned upside down and blown wide open. I ate a salad fresh from a garden, something I had never done before (my parents, bless their hearts, don’t know a spade from a shovel), and was taught about the beauties of compost for the first time. I vowed then that I would have a compost pile as an adult. It’s no wonder, then, that I knew DH was my soul mate when, during our engagement, he asked, “So how do you feel about compost?” (more…)

Top Chef Gets Emotional04 Mar 2011 09:27 pm

Ahhh….such a sweet episode (with the exception of quite possibly the stupidest quickfire ever - but I guess they had to get to Ellis Island somehow).  (more…)

Happy Birthday to my 9 year old01 Mar 2011 04:42 pm

I swear he was born just yesterday.

I cried last night as I thought of him getting older. What a sap I’ve turned out to be.
