Summer thoughts29 Jul 2011 12:24 pm

While this title suggests some introspective take on summer, mostly this post is about sunscreen, because during the summer, I think about sunscreen. A lot. I buy it a lot, I carry it with me a lot, I use it a lot. And today, as I used up at least the 4th spray bottle this season of the stuff, I thought, “This stuff sucks.” (more…)

The more the merrier26 Jul 2011 10:47 am

I have a house full of children right now. 2 friends for J, a new friend for Little Sister. It’s noisy. I even had to feed them all lunch, and put out a spread of mac ‘n cheese, celery sticks with peanutbutter, green peppers (picked from the garden! Yay for gardens!), peaches, and lemonade. Healthy and easy, but only about half of the kids ate the food. The others complained that they weren’t hungry, that they didn’t like any of those things, but there are half eaten peaches strewn about my house. Little Sister is trying on a variety of dress ups, leaving a slew of glitter and tulle in her wake.

It is fantastic. I don’t mind the whining, or the noise, or the mess. I feel more relaxed than I have felt in days. (more…)

This is the weather forecast for today22 Jul 2011 01:36 pm

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
Sunny
Extreme heat index. Outdoor exposure should be limited.
Partly Cloudy
99°F
Feels Like: 116°

Through 10pm: Partly cloudy with temperatures falling to the upper 80s. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. A stray thunderstorm is possible through the evening. Some clouds this evening will give way to mainly clear skies overnight, with a low of 79F.

Did you catch that? The low tonight will be 79 degrees. THE LOW. I’m fairly certain the people in hell are laughing at us. Or maybe there is a new hellmouth in town, and some demon escaped and left the door to hell wide open. Where’s Buffy when you need her?

We’re off to the pool. And if they haven’t hosed down the water to cool it off (yes, I’ve been to the pool where even the water is too hot to be refreshing), I’m coming home and taking a bath in ice-cubes and pray for a cold death.

I know why Steve Burns left “Blue’s Clues”19 Jul 2011 10:07 am

Because if he has an ounce of sanity in his bones, he recognized that singing (or lipsynching, more likely, as they probably had it on a soundtrack) “To play Blue’s Clues we gotta find a…” for 10 years might have made him lose it all completely and turned him into a green striped lunatic.

I know this because I am slowly becoming that lunatic, having been listening to “To play Blue’s Clues we gotta find a….” non stop for the past century. Okay, it’s only really probably 2 weeks or so, but it feels like longer. Much, much longer. (more…)

When my pool buddies start asking me about it, I suppose it’s time to blog about it.16 Jul 2011 10:14 am

A post about blogging, because that’s what I’ve been thinking about13 Jul 2011 11:15 am

Actually, mostly I’ve been thinking about what I have to get done before my meeting in an hour, so of course, since I only have an hour to be productive, I’ve turned to blogging. Because sometimes, old habits die hard. (more…)

It’s a Twister!09 Jul 2011 08:02 pm

I swear this summer has picked me up, swirled me about a bit, and is finally in the process of putting me down. I just hope I get let down gently, and not slammed down with a lot of force. And while I could do without the “bruises”, getting swirled about a bit is good every once in a while, I guess.

But it is a little dizzying.  (more…)
