Your Majesty’s High Chair is Ready29 Sep 2011 06:00 pm

My daughter is about to turn one.  Which means that my mailbox has mysteriously turned into a repository for all things related to birthdays (yes I’m about to whine about something I got in the mail. Again).  Not sure if the hospital sold us out or what, but we got on some mailing list and now we are getting catalogs full of all the “stuff” we “need” to celebrate her first trip around the sun.

Aside from the paper and manpower wasted on these things I suppose there’s nothing terribly harmful about them at first glance.  It is upon second and third glances that the less obvious but more insidious nature of the publications and their wares become apparent. (more…)

So, y’all know I don’t live in Seattle, right? I mean, I’m pretty sure I don’t live in Seattle. I’ve been to Seattle many times, and I like Seattle (although I’ve yet to ever be properly warm there), but I don’t live there, nor do I plan on moving there any time soon. (more…)

Thinking Thin21 Sep 2011 07:09 pm

Is it too late to start a New Year’s Resolution? I’ve been meaning to do this for months, but of course, life gets in the way and  here we are in September and, well, you know…  The point is, I still want to do it.  The biggie.  The one that is on my list every year.  Lose Weight!  Besides, a new season of The Biggest Loser started this week and I’m motivated.

How am I going to try this time?  Maybe you remember The Wiz posting last May about how her brother was turning his program for juvenile delinquents into a weight loss program.  If I’m honest, when I first heard about it, I kept thinking that the Belief Workout was going to be like the “Think System” from The Music Man.  La dee da dee da dee da dee da.  Maybe I could sit on my butt and think my way into looking like Heidi Klum.  That would really be my kind of workout. Anyway, I threw caution to the wind and attended my first webinar tonight.  The webinar thing is great because going to a live class in Springville, Utah is just not an option for me. They changed Facebook. Jerks.

They’re changing Netflix soon. Meanies.

My husband’s Iphone is now obsolete. Dummyheads.

Thoughts about Washington DC12 Sep 2011 09:26 am

When J turned 2, we were living in Little Rock, Arkansas. My husband was clerking for a judge, a gig that lasted one year. We liked Arkansas, but maybe we liked it because we knew we were only going to be there one year. It was one of the few times in my life when I lived in a place where I had no connections, no family, no friends. When we moved in, we didn’t know a single soul. After a week of having nobody to talk to during the day besides my 2 year old, I was desperately lonely and starved for conversation. I got in the car and drove in circles, looking for a park, and practically assaulted the mothers I found there. Like I said, I was desperate. (more…)

Doing fall right02 Sep 2011 08:25 am

I love fall. It’s my very favorite time of the year. But my problem with fall is that I always seem to miss it. It goes by so fast, and before I know it, by the time I get around to putting out cute fall decorations, Thanksgiving is over and people are singing Christmas Carols. Maybe summer just lasts too long around these parts, but I always feel like fall is over in a flash, and I’m too busy or too dumb or too tired to appreciate it.

I’m determined to get the most out of fall this year, though. So tell me, sisters, what fall traditions do you have that really makes it feel like fall to you? I’d love to add things to my to do list that I will actually do and that will be more fun than laundry.
