When I was a kid, I had a friend whose big sister taped “Days of Our Lives”. I have a random, distinct memory of them blathering on about Roman and Marlena, and sitting through the fast forwarded version of Roman and Marlena’s wedding where they have a clip montage thingie set to music. There was a clip where Marlena was crying, looking at a picture of Roman, and my friend started jumping up and down on the couch and said, “Watch her mouth! You can tell she says, ‘It’s Roman!’” (Yes, the part of the memory that sticks out to me is the lip-reading part. I also used to lie down on my back and try to get an ice-cube to slide down my throat without swallowing. Even as a kid, I was a speech geek.) (more…)

This eCard has been floating around the internet lately and expresses my thoughts quite accurately. It also gives me a modicum of validation and reminds me that I’m not the only person that feels this way:

I have been reading “The Little Princess” to Little Sister, mostly because my mother read it to me, and it’s an awesome story (still makes me tear up a little bit at the end). It got me thinking about other books my mother read to me, and that got me thinking about the book, “Heidi”. I had totally forgotten about it. That got me looking up “Heidi” on my Kindle, to see if I could read it for free (I can, and I even got the German version so I can pretend that I still speak German), and THAT got me looking on Netflix for versions of “Heidi” to watch while I fold laundry. And here I am, posting about it all.
Wait, what am I posting about? You might THINK this is a post about classic children’s literature, but really, this is a post about laundry. And housekeeping. Seriously. (more…)

This week I don’t have any remarkable results to share in terms of weight (maybe a 1/2 pound loss), but our assignment this past week was to think about why we eat. My answer? I eat because I’m freakin’ hungry. On the otherhand, I snack because I’m stressed or anxious. It is my belief that somehow noshing will abate the nervous energy stress creates. I am now thinking I might be wrong. (more…)

Last year, I blogged about my 9 year old lying to me. It was a pretty dramatic event, as his lie turned a minor offense into something much, much more.
Many of you recommended that I read “Nurture Shock”, and I did. It was excellent, informative, interesting. Every parent should read this book. I took to heart many of the things the book said, most notably that they did studies that proved that while something like 95% of parents think their children never lie, close to 80% of children have, at one point, lied. Think your kid is always honest? Yeah, do the math.
And so with this background, we get to today’s incident. This time, it involved Little Sister. (more…)
