I’ve been instructed that I have to go to Chicago next week and I am NOT happy about it. In fact, I’m really peeved! Before anyone gets offended, my peevish demeanor comes not from the city itself, but from what will occur at home next week in my absence.
You see, there are 2 big events next week: School picture day and Princess Poop’s 6th birthday. If it were just about the pictures, I could probably handle that, but c’mon, do I really have to miss my daughter’s birthday? Oh yes, says the boss, I do.
So in anticipation of my commanded absence, I’ve already filled out the picture forms with checks for payment, have scheduled a hair cut for my son on Saturday hoping for a style that will still look good on my 8 year old who thinks a comb is a foreign object. I’ve also got my daughter an appointment on picture day at 7:30 a.m. with the hair stylist, since her father’s skills are somewhat lacking in that department. She will also have to make do with store-bought cup cakes this year for her school class, but she’s being pretty good about it. I’ll leave a few gifts that she can open from me that day, but we’re having the party on Sunday before I go hoping that will make up somehow for my departure. I’ve also forwarned the school and Butch’s teachers of my absence, since we always seem to have issues when I’m gone.
Having prepared myself for this ill-timed trek, I suppose now is the time to try and make lemonade out of the lemon. Windy City mommas, I call to you now. My experience with Chicago consists entirely with O’Hare airport. Now that I’ll be beyond those portals, I need ideas on what to do that will give me the “flavor” of the city. What are the must sees of Chicago?
