1. If you want your collection to appear ‘cohesive’ make it all the same color. (Is it too much to ask for something more than aqua, white, and beige?)
2. Don’t mouth off to Tim Gunn, because he just might be your guest judge after all. (I really do think he was impartial, though.)
3. Weird leafy things in your hair are distracting.
4. Be aware of what other designers are doing, or you just might ‘copy them accidentally.’ A lot.
I’m sad, but I’m not surprised. I knew a lot of people were singing Leanne’s praises after the show, and I was prepared for it. But I still think Korto’s was better. Her colors were stunning, it wasn’t the same thing over and over, and the only complaint I would have is that some of them were shockingly short. I thought the whole thing was gorgeous.
Leanne’s was just noodle after noodle in the same two colors. There was one skirt that looked like balloons were under the hips? I guess this makes me a fashion loser. I am OK with that. I just kept thinking “those are the most high maintenance clothes - the thought of ironing those makes me vomit.” (the fact that I don’t iron might have something to do with this). And then when she tried to steam the one outfit and it expanded two sizes - suspicions confirmed. Those would be difficult clothes to own. But high fashion isn’t about regular people owning them, I know that. I don’t know why, though. Shouldn’t it be about that on some level?
Kenley’s was meh. The hand painted thing was cool. It looked like stuff she had already done in the challenges. The floral print with the growth thing, she won for that, so she brought it back, even though that’s the one the judges said was a knockoff. She had a couple of fifties stuff of course, and I am having a hard time getting past the leaves in her hair. What was that?
I might be done with this show. I don’t know. I am just a fashion loser enough that my favorites don’t win - I wanted Laura, not Jeffrey. I liked Christian, though, and really thought he would win, even though I liked Rami. I was pulling for Korto. It’s getting exhausting. We’ll see what the network switch does….
Top Chef next month! I can’t wait!!!!

Korto totally should have won. Kenley should’ve been gone WEEKS ago, and Jerrell should have been in the finals. and it SHOULD have been between Korto and Jerrell. I’m so bitter.
and I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself until Nov. 12.
Comment #1 by MomBabeOctober 16th, 2008 at 10:48 amKorto was robbed. Leanne, per normal, was mousy and *yawn* boring. I may be done too, because no one I liked has won, either.
Onward, TOP CHEF!
Comment #2 by Tracy MOctober 16th, 2008 at 11:02 amKorto’s line was my favorite. So many nice, happy colors, and yet it all went together really well.
If it wasn’t for the awesomeness that is Top Chef, I never would have bothered watching any of Project Runway. While I’ve enjoyed watching this season (it is the only season I’ve watched of PR), the fashion hasn’t grabbed me as much as the food.
Comment #3 by kaduseyOctober 16th, 2008 at 11:56 amKorto was ROBBED!!! I couldn’t believe it! Her collections was Stunning and Leanne’s was impressive, but so monochromatic and boring. And yeah, what women in their right mind would ever wear one of those outfits in real life… the ironing would be an absolute nightmare! I’ve never been a fan of that green color Korto used, but if she made me a (modest) dress in that color, I would be proud to wear it!
Comment #4 by christyOctober 16th, 2008 at 12:25 pmSorry, I loved Leanne’s line. I loved Korto’s too, but I agreed with the win going to Leanne. I just hope now she can afford a hair dryer.
Comment #5 by wbprawOctober 16th, 2008 at 12:30 pmwbpraw - that’s what my hair looks like when it gets long - hence the shortness.
Comment #6 by The WizOctober 16th, 2008 at 12:54 pmI loved Korto’s, but Leanne’s was so CHIC. Her color palette was just so elegant! All those different shades of aqua and white. And that little vest/pants number? Be still my heart!
The construction for all three was very good, but Leanne’s was incredible. The amount of work and and thought, hoo-boy. I agreed, Korto needed another edit. Although, in a pinch, I would probably wear Korto’s clothes over Leanne’s, I completely know why Leanne was the winner.
So, so chic.
Comment #7 by AzucarOctober 16th, 2008 at 1:37 pmp.s. everyone is hating on Kenley’s fascinators, I’m kind of loving them.
Comment #8 by AzucarOctober 16th, 2008 at 1:38 pmOh, man. I HATED that vest/pants number. But Michael Kors loved it too. So I guess I have bad taste. I can live with that.
Comment #9 by The WizOctober 16th, 2008 at 1:44 pmLet me clarify. I HATED the vest. The pants were good.
Comment #10 by The WizOctober 16th, 2008 at 1:46 pmI was torn between Leanne’s and Korto’s. Minus the insane amount of petals, Leanne’s was extremely well-crafted. And her whole “green” theme of sustainable materials is so trendy right now, that sealed the deal I think. It bothered me that none of the judges brought up the fact that her first outfit, the one that expanded two sizes, was totally coming apart in the back and practically falling off the model as she went down the runway. Huge flaw.
Korto’s were just beautiful - the colors, the bead work, the lines. Is it just me or did most of her outfits look wrinkled? I couldn’t tell if it was the fabric or a crap steaming job, but they all looked wrinkled or just overworked…
KENLEY OUT FIRST! YES! Agreed, judges should have sent her and her attitude packing weeks ago. I guess it wouldn’t have been as fun to send three buddies to Bryant Park. Now my knowledge of major designer fashions doesn’t really extend beyond PR and flipping through the pages of Harper’s Bazaar, but most of her line looked like some form of copy-cat looks to me.
Comment #11 by amelioratemeOctober 16th, 2008 at 2:12 pmI was so glad when Kenley was auf’ed first because I was sure she was going to win; the person I don’t like always wins. I thought both the other two collections were cohesive, and my guess is that Nina’s fears about the petals were overlooked because of all the different stuff she’s done in the past in the competition. Anyway, I loved Korto’s too and felt bad for her. And even though I liked Jerell more than Kenley, the peeks at his collection looked really random and freaky, so I think it was probably best for him to not go on.
Comment #12 by Steph @ Diapers and DivinityOctober 16th, 2008 at 3:03 pmI really wanted Korto to win.. her things were wonderful and I loved all the colors…
Comment #13 by nancy wrightOctober 16th, 2008 at 4:30 pmWHO would wear all those petal cloths… maybe 1% of the high society young skinny people…
but Korto’s were lovely and body friendly… perhaps the fabric was too much silk.. hence the wrinkles..
I have only picked PR winners once…cannot remember her name.. but it was obvious that year…
I knew leanne was going to win… but kept hoping till the last second that they would pick Korto… Oh well..
at least with top chef I learn a little bit… PR is getting frustrating… PULEEESE get us some talent next time… I know I will watch and get frustrated… see y’alll come TC time..
nancyw
I was torn between Leanne and Korto as well. I just thank the fashion and social etiquette gods that Kenley was auf’d at last!!!
Korto made me a bit sad with the look on her face when she didn’t win, but she’ll no doubt do very well and have a lot of success with so much exposure. Maybe even her own reality show on Bravo
Comment #14 by nevadanistaOctober 16th, 2008 at 4:35 pmI liked Leanne’s show. It did make a statement by using the same colors. It was elegant but unique. It wasn’t just about the petals but conveyed the waves theme she was going for with folds and layering. It was art.
Korto’s was nice but really really would you wear any of it either? Great colors and loved the fans (the paper ones the models held, not the audience)
Adios Kenley!
Comment #15 by jendoopOctober 16th, 2008 at 6:44 pmYes, I would love to wear korto’s stuff, actually.
Leanne…I think she took the whole “WAves” thing way too literally. It got to the point of being obnoxious.
To each their own, right?
Comment #16 by mellocelloOctober 16th, 2008 at 7:20 pmI would wear Korto’s stuff too. In a heartbeat. But as I looked in my closet today for something to wear, I was thinking about the show, and I realized I don’t own one thing that comes even close to that aqua Leanne showed. (although I do have a lot of white). I don’t have any pastel-y type colors at all, actually. It’s just not a color pallette that calls to me.
I wondered if the waves would have bothered me less if they were in a different color? I dont think so, but there’s no way to know for sure.
In reading around, it seems most people are happy Leanne won, and agree with the judges. I’m happy for her, I just liked Korto better.
Comment #17 by The WizOctober 16th, 2008 at 7:26 pmRobbed I tell ya! Korto’s line was fab. That first dress was stunning. Leanne’s was, to me, exactly what Nina stated, “How could you turn this into 40 looks?” aaack! I can imagine those waves everywhere in the future. I guess it could be a signature. No one would ask on the runway who their wearing.
I liked Korto line. But, I did go to her website, boy it needs updating, and it was not that great. She does seem to have matured and I think she will go far. No reunion show either. Korto did win fan favorite thank goodness.
Kenley. Maybe her real calling is textile design. She seemed more comfortable with the fabric than with the design. I hope she learned something from this experience.
TopChef!!!!!!!! wahooooooo!
Comment #18 by chronicler/robynOctober 16th, 2008 at 7:54 pmI’m just sad there was no reunion.
Comment #19 by DoubleLOctober 17th, 2008 at 4:56 amI really liked Korto’s line better than Leanne’s but I think the fact that Leanne did shorts, pants, skirts, short dresses, long dresses, etc., really ran the whole gamut of pieces and seperates really clinched it for her.
Kind of glad there was no reunion; I didn’t really need to hear any more whining from Kenley.
Comment #20 by ValerieOctober 17th, 2008 at 6:37 amI agree with Valerie—I think she won because she had a variety of different types of pieces. I could see something like that totally being a tie-breaker for the judges.
Comment #21 by Susan MOctober 17th, 2008 at 11:00 amI am so so so looking forward to Top Chef.
Comment #22 by BridgetOctober 18th, 2008 at 9:31 amOk, watched this for the first time on Jet Blue to and from across the country, with a few episodes in the hotel room in between, just to see what all the hoopla is about. Just one question — why do amazing designers forget to look in the mirrior? Saw Leanne on the Today show, wearing an ugly drab gray blouse that she “just whipped up in a hurry”, that totally washed her out and made her look terrible. I know she’s young, but with such an eye for style, I just don’t get it.
