…you know, in a superficial, “it’s not REAL happiness” kind of way. But it could be love. I just know it.
(I went to the beauty supply store yesterday with someone who actually has a cosmetology license, and mooched off her and bought a whole bunch of stuff wholesale.)
I am now officially in love with BedHead shampoo and conditioner. It was even on sale there, so it was below wholesale. I’ve been using the cheapest stuff I could find at Target (*cough* Suave *cough)and it works okay, but my hair felt a little like straw, frankly. After using this stuff today, I could not believe the difference. Now I have to keep my kids away from it, because I’m selfish like that, and want this shampoo to last for-EVER.
I have a new blow dryer. (Now, a little backstory: I’m lazy. I have short hair. Backstory over.) Blowing my hair dry always took like, 5 minutes tops. My old hairdryer was limping along on its last legs, making noises, with parts occasionally falling off. Now with this new baby, my hair is literally dry in 30 seconds. It’s unbelievably awesome. I am amazed at how happy this makes me. It’s also super tiny, which also makes me happy. I don’t know why, it just does. BaByliss Pro TT. I picked it because it was the cheapest one there. Getting to spend more time asleep and/or daydreaming in the shower knowing my hairdrying time is lightning fast is just, well, happy-making.
I have a new nail product that my cousin (the cosmetology license holder) swears will make my nails longer and stronger with ruthless efficiency. I look forward to that. I’m not much of a polish girl (except occasionally on my toes, because a sassy pedicure is awesomeness too) but the thought of having healthy, long-but-not-too-long, natural nails makes me smile. Of course, I’ll have to apply it daily, and again, the laziness, so we’ll see. But I have hope.
Pumpkin pie for breakfast is pure joy. In fact, pumpkin pie at any time. Bring it.
The weather right now could not be dreamier. Fall in Arizona, while lacking in the pretty leaves, is perfection otherwise. And it doesn’t end in winter. Not REALLY, anyway. It’s just like…one..LOOOOONGGG fall. Yay. Double yay.
My kids are not allowed to wear costumes to school. Happy happy joy joy.
My zip code in SLC is the WORST ONE, real estate wise, according to the paper today. YAY!! OK, this does not make me happy. But I’m in too good of a mood to let it bother me at the moment. Ask me tomorrow. I might answer you, or I might be too busy eating pumpkin pie, stopping every so often because I’ll get distracted by my beautiful nails as they bring the spoon to my mouth.

Don’t hold out…what’s the new nail product called?
Comment #1 by roxybOctober 29th, 2008 at 5:45 pmOh sorry. Nail Tek. They have a bunch of different boxes, apparently the one that says ‘Hydration Therapy I’ is the way to go. It looks like clear nail polish, you apply it daily for about a week, then remove. Repeat as needed.
Comment #2 by The WizOctober 29th, 2008 at 5:54 pmLove it!
So…no costumes, huh?
Comment #3 by DianeOctober 29th, 2008 at 5:56 pmThey have costumes that they’ll wear trick or treating. But not having to get them all ready at 6 in the morning is niiice.
Comment #4 by The WizOctober 29th, 2008 at 6:16 pmWahoo! Going to the salon shop with a license to shop! Cool. Bedhead is great stuff.
But the item that is the best on the list is no costumes allowed at school!!! Doing cartwheels for ya on that one!
I have ot laugh at the ward trunk or treat this weekend. They’re serving hot chocolate. It was 94 yesterday, 95 today. At this rate they won’t even need to use a stove to heat it.
Comment #5 by robynOctober 29th, 2008 at 6:38 pmI’m with Robyn, hating our anti-fall weather here in AZ. 95 degrees at Halloween is no fun. And are you saying you live in AZ somewhere now? I missed that. I try to go without AC sometimes, but it was 83 in the house today & I was miserable. Holiday baking doesn’t help either.
I have been wanting to try Bedhead - good to have a personal recommendation. Thanks.
Comment #6 by TaraOctober 29th, 2008 at 6:50 pmNow I’m going to get called on the mat for being superficial here too. Dang it, I promise I’m not this shallow.
Comment #7 by The WizOctober 29th, 2008 at 7:30 pmWiz, your list made me happy. Yeah for fun stuff!
I think this should be a ‘no complaining zone’ about any hot weather for Halloween. (Although I have to say I can’t blame you because 95 in Oct is just wrong!) A large part of the country is 10-20 degrees cooler than normal. We just might end up warmer than expected that night… ha, meaning almost freezing instead of literally freezing. My kids will still end up hiding their costumes under their coats. Is there anyone out there lucky enough to expect mild temperatures for trick-or-treating??
Comment #8 by Michelle AMOctober 29th, 2008 at 7:57 pmI still haven’t gotten my kids costumes - and they ARE wearing them on Friday. Tomorrow will be interesting. (BAD MOM.)
This has been the best weather we’ve had in October since we moved here.
Comment #9 by SueOctober 29th, 2008 at 8:24 pmI love good hair stuff, I haven’t treated myself in a while.
Comment #10 by CassiBOctober 29th, 2008 at 8:38 pmLucky you on the costumes. Our schools rule is as long as it is a character from a book, so we have Dorothy, Care bear and Little Red riding hood. Little red is done other two are almost, yeah, doin good this year.
I don’t like to complain about the weather as long as it isn’t over 110 out there, been here my whole life and always liked that we didn’t need coats at Halloween. we are a family of allergic people so this time of year is no good as far as that goes.
I like not having to wear coats, but I wish it would drop consistently into the 80’s instead of staying put in the 90’s. It’d feel more like fall then, and would be cool enough to go on walks during the day instead of waiting (still waiting at the end of October) for the sun to start setting.
Pumpkin pie is fabulous anytime. Do you like it better with a standard crust or with a graham crust?
I need to find a professional-type person who will give me a makeover for fun. Or I need to go cough up the money to have a real pedicure or manicure for the first time, or a haircut/color (it hasn’t been cut in about a year…it’s getting pretty bad), or something. Short hair that you can blowdry in a matter of minutes is fabulous.
Comment #11 by kaduseyOctober 29th, 2008 at 9:15 pmWe’ve got the 35 degree morning, and 70 degree afternoon, makes for complicated dressing.
I had a hair dryer last over 20 years!!! my DH would periodically take it apart and clean it. It actually was still working but I finally decided to buy a new one.
oh we’re into the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, YUMMY!!!
Sorry on the house, glad i’m no longer in Utah.
Comment #12 by SarahOctober 29th, 2008 at 9:30 pmCostumes? OH CRAP!
Comment #13 by Tracy MOctober 29th, 2008 at 9:53 pmOur kids’ school has “code of dress” - no uniforms but they will allow hats, IF they put a clever vocabulary word card describing the hat on it. How many words can you think of to describe a witch’s hat. We came up with three.
Comment #14 by mormonhermitmomOctober 29th, 2008 at 9:57 pmPumpkin pie ROCKS.
I’m a cosmetologist and every time my mom comes to visit we go and she loads up on hair stuff to last till she comes again. It’s way better than buying at the retail price!
Comment #15 by Jen R.October 29th, 2008 at 10:09 pmI’m seriously jealous of the no costumes in school rule!
Comment #16 by Alison WonderlandOctober 30th, 2008 at 3:56 amI agree with Sarah: pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are the best. Unfortunately, I managed to give away most of the batch from yesterday. Whoops!
(I think there’s one left — time for breakfast!)
Comment #17 by ResearcherOctober 30th, 2008 at 5:48 amNo costumes allowed in our district either. But then again, they’ve canceled school for Friday. So no running costumes, that I just finished sewing (or gluing, or stapling or whatever) together in the afternoon, to a kid who has been sweatin’ in out, hoping that mom could finish it in time before the party. And absolutely, no getting up before 10 am tomorrow morning. Talk about FAB-O! I love dressing up my kids and FALL and all of that but I’m just not feeling it this year (maybe decade).
Weather wise, low 40’s nighttime low, low 70’s daytime high. PLUS, beautiful leaves, on and off of the trees. Hot chocolate is mandatory. Okay my husband is part Dutch, so we do chocolate year round, hot or not. ;D
Comment #18 by All8October 30th, 2008 at 8:06 amWe live in the Bible Belt so no costumes at school here. Halloween is evil. In fact, even at church there are no Halloween Parties or Trunk or Treats allowed, only Fall Festivals (so our neighbors don’t think we’re evil too and might come if we invite them). Our Trunk or Treat is an underground, word of mouth thing held at a local school parking lot.
Comment #19 by FairchildOctober 30th, 2008 at 8:28 amSorry, there’s nothing like Virginia for the fall. And Halloween is great weather–it’s always the hottest day of the year, with a cool evening. Ahhh….
Comment #20 by Heather O.October 30th, 2008 at 8:39 amI’m loving the AZ weather. Sure it would be nice to hit the 80’s instead of the 90’s, but hey they are both better that freezing OR 110’s! I grew up in Oregon so the no rain and no coats thing for Halloween is still a big deal to me. Again, I LOVE IT! And, no costumes at school… it just keeps getting better.
Thanks for the product names. My nails are in a desperate state.
Comment #21 by JenniferOctober 30th, 2008 at 8:47 amCan I add one more to the list? Daylight savings this weekend. No more getting dark at 6:00 pm. Except that because it stays darker later in the morning my toddler isn’t getting up so early these days which is nice, but I’ll take the trade.
Comment #22 by StarababaOctober 30th, 2008 at 8:56 amFairchild - Dare I say that is the funniest thing I have heard? Underground trunk-or-treating is a hoot. And I thought we wacky Mormons had to explain polygamy - not trunk-or-treating! LOL!
Comment #23 by BridgetOctober 30th, 2008 at 9:08 amI love the bed head gel that comes in a mustard bottle looking thing. My wife turned me on to it.
Comment #24 by john wOctober 30th, 2008 at 9:54 amThis is the first year I’ve sewn a costume in I don’t know how many years - ok wait…. the last one I did any sewing on I HAND sewed (white bat wings on a white t-shirt so my then 9 year old could be Bartok)!!!! Turns out when you start to quilt your family magically thinks you can sew anything!
Virginia is just great period
And I’m thinking I need some pumpkin bread… pumpkin muffins.. SOMETHING!
Comment #25 by MommomOctober 30th, 2008 at 9:55 amHow lucky are you to not have to deal with costume drama before school. My daughter was 30 minutes late this morning because of costume drama. I hate that. Congrats on all your fun beauty supplies at a discount no less.
Comment #26 by PatOctober 30th, 2008 at 11:18 amOh - and I thought we were supposed to find happiness in the little things…
Comment #27 by MommomOctober 30th, 2008 at 11:31 amI just heard of suggestion to help sell your house. You bury a St. Joseph Statue (who I’m not sure who that is) in your yard and it’s supposed to help your house sell.
Hey it’s worth a shot.
Comment #28 by SarahOctober 30th, 2008 at 12:21 pm#28 you are supposed to bury it upside down in your yard facing away from your house. just in case you are interesting..
Comment #29 by ModdyOctober 30th, 2008 at 12:31 pmBury the St. Joseph upside down and face him east.
Comment #30 by SarahOctober 30th, 2008 at 12:43 pmLurking from Australia. Have to say that Halloween and trick or treating is slowly infiltrating here and I’m not sure if that makes me happy or not. Plus side: DD old enough to make her own costume. Minus side: it’s 97 degrees right now, so the costumes and candy are going to melt!
Comment #31 by CalicoOctober 30th, 2008 at 7:47 pmSo…anyone know what shampoo is good for long slightly curly hair that gets horrible tangled and matted constantly? I’m asking for my 14 yo son.
Comment #32 by Susan MOctober 31st, 2008 at 11:42 amOh, the no costume thing at school. Bliss. Reed tried it once at his school. The Kindergarten parents had such a fit. You would have thought the only reason they had a kid was to dress him up on Halloween and send him to school.
Yeah, I’m an old, old, old, Mom. I’ve earned my Bah Humbug.
