Best chocolate advice. Hands down, Nutella. You can warm it and spread it on a croissant or toasted french bread (no butter). Dip a marshmallow in it, then roll it in sprinkles or walnuts if you like. Or you can even just spoon it from the jar for a quick burst of chocolate. It is shelf stable and the best $5 purchase around!
So funny you should ask… I am posting on chocolate- on Wed. because today I ate 1/2 a bag of Cadbury Milk Chocolate Mini Eggs- the absolute best and they are already on the shelves at Target- so go get yourself a bag of those- you won’t be sorry- you will fall in love just in case- they make these in dark chocolate too.
I second the cadbury milk chocolate mini eggs. I bought some a few years back to decorate cupcakes, well the ended up only getting one each. I ate most of the bag. I’ve gotten them every year since. They were loading up the shelves with easter stuff at fry’s when I was there tonight. OH, YUM!!
When I absolutely need chocolate, it’s usually in the form of some sort of baked good: brownies, cupcakes, etc. Over the weekend I tried a new molten lava cake recipe from Kraft Foods that was ridiculously easy! http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/molten-chocolate-cakes-69182.aspx
I wouldn’t give hershey’s to my worst enemy. Giradelli is crap chocolate in nice packaging… I really don’t know why people make such a big deal about it. Same thing for Godiva.
Lindt is by far the best option–their raspberry chocolate bar is great, but I also love the truffles, followed by Dove and Cadburry mini eggs. I also like me some Magic Shell for my ice cream.
This is a long shot, but if you ever get the chance to try a bar of Anton Berg’s chocolate-go for it. It is a Danish brand that has a really intense chocolate flavor. I’m also partial to dark chocolate with pear, but I don’t think there is one place in the States that you could buy it. Sigh . . . I miss Sweden.
It doesn’t matter what kind of chocolate, just don’t chew. You are supposed to put it in your mouth, then let it melt slowly. That way you get the best effect, and the most pleasure. I get about halfway, then chew and swallow! I can’t wait that long!
I like DOVE for stress relief. Something about the buttery-ness (or waxiness?) of it really makes it seem melty and that makes me feel happy.
And wiz is right, you. are evil. you, you are evil…. for mentioning chocolate and now everyone else is mentioning it and thinking about it, and probably getting some to eat right now…mmmmmmmmm. Except for her. Sorry Wiz.
Symphony Bar–the largest one they sale. I know you will think “I don’t need that much chocolate,” but it is too good to put down and if you are already having a bad day you don’t want to drive to Target twice. Save the gas and buy the big bar.
My 17 year old daughter asked for a CASE of these delightful candy bars for Christmas. When she opened the case up there was an uproar with the other 5 siblings. Everyone wanted to give away their toys if they too could have a case of Symphony chocolate.
This Valentine’s Day, my ten year old boy asked me to not by the traditional chocolates in a heart, but just buy a Symphony bar.
I am definitely a quality over quantity person. I am not sure what Target sells (as I live in Canada) but I say go for Lindt or Cadbury. I personally am a fan of Bernard Callebaut but I doubt you can get that there. It is to DIE for! The Lindt dark chocolate in the silver wrapper with blue writing is so good and Cadbury makes okay chocolate for everyday stuff, I am a fan of Mini Eggs myself for a little treat at the store You are evil though, now I am trying to figure out how I can go to the store and re-stock on my dark chocolate almond bar that I am craving so badly …. dang pregnancy cravings …..
OK, I’m biased, but I like Amano. And we just started selling a pre-release of our new milk. (Basically the packaging wasn’t ready in time for Valentine’s)
I second anything Dove (particularly dark chocolate and/or caramel)…
… and Symphony! With toffee, if you have an option…
Or Hershey’s brownies - I didn’t know they existed until I bought a big 6-pack box of mixes from Costco, and I had some fresh out of the oven. That reminded me why people think brownies are worthwhile…
If you asked anyone who knows me IRL to name something that comes to mind about me… I bet 97% of them would say, “She loves chocolate!”
My favorite is Lindt. I love Dove, too, and the sayings they put on their wrappers. I love choc covered nuts, choc with toffee, choc with caramel. Milk chocolate is my favorite.
Mmm, I must go get a piece of chocolate now that my mouth is watering!
Heather, I’m glad that your trip to Target resulted in some chocolate to alleviate your bad mood!
It’s way past the trip to Target, but I can’t believe no one mentioned Harry & David Truffles. Yum!
I will say that Cadbury mini-eggs can help cure a migraine for me (and this is not the case with just any chocolate). I really don’t know WHAT that says about me or what causes my migraines.
Lindt Madagascar. And I can only buy it at Target round these parts. A bit of euphoria in one square.
Comment #1 by AhnaFebruary 16th, 2009 at 6:48 pmI’m a dude, but i recommend the Giradelli dark chocolate squares. The ones with mint are very good as well.
Comment #2 by DaveFebruary 16th, 2009 at 7:16 pmThere’s been a lot of TimTam talk. Apparently only available at target.
Comment #3 by JamiFebruary 16th, 2009 at 7:36 pmI’m surprised no one has mentioned discount valentine chocolate. Sure, not all of it is high quality…but there’s bound to be some good stuff on sale!
Comment #4 by CarolynFebruary 16th, 2009 at 7:47 pmyou’re probably home already, but i like the target choxie line.

Comment #11 by RayFebruary 16th, 2009 at 8:35 pmChoxy Salted Caramels covered in milk chocolate (or dark chocolate). Holla.
Comment #12 by bekFebruary 16th, 2009 at 9:09 pmA bag of Dove last’s a long time
Comment #13 by SarahFebruary 16th, 2009 at 9:13 pmI’m a fan of dark chocolate with toffee in it. Not terribly particular about the brand.
Comment #14 by Mrs. MFebruary 16th, 2009 at 10:01 pmYou can’t go wrong with Lindt Lindor Truffles. So delicious, and the M&M’s premiums are pretty good too. They are a much better quality chocolate.
Comment #15 by Amy Btw MFebruary 16th, 2009 at 11:33 pmLindt Truffles all the way! They also make an excellent layered chocolate bar that is AMAZING.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Target sells Frey chocolate, which comes from Switzerland, and is probably the best chocolate you can buy at your Target. Get the Japonais bar.
Comment #29 by AzucarFebruary 17th, 2009 at 2:14 pmThe Amano is amazingly good- and Clark isn’t even paying me to say that!
