By Melissa Mc
I’m the new girl at MMW so I thought I would share with you some of my FAVORITE THINGS. But please don’t tattle to Oprah – she’s got a much bigger budget & legal department than I do:
Dove Go Fresh products: especially their grapefruit & lemongrass soap. A great shower pick me up!
Kashi Heart to Heart Cereal: I have been eating it for breakfast everyday for 10 yrs.
Burt’s Bees lip balm and hand salve: couldn’t live without either of them – I have lip balm in every pocket, bag, drawer and glove compartment.
Baggu reusable shopping bags: they are huge and come in fabulous colors. My grocery cart looks like a rainbow when I leave the store.
Maybelline Volume Express Mascara: better than their original PINK great lash mascara.
NPR: my day is not complete without The Diane Rehm Show and Terri Gross’ Fresh Air.
Mrs. Meyers cleaning products: they are a splurge and smell fabulous! Normally I use cheap chemicals.
Classico Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo Sauce: We eat TONS of pasta for dinner (my husband served his mission in Rome) but cream sauces are not my specialty. This is great with leftover chicken and fresh or frozen broccoli. A three ingredient meal in no time. (oh, and only 5g of fat). The roasted garlic alfredo is good too, as is the pesto.
Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup with CALCIUM: so I can rationalize that ice cream sundaes are GOOD for me!
People Magazine : totally indulgent bathroom trash!
Goodreads.com: my favorite website (other than Facebook and MMW of course!)
Stonewall Kitchen’s Roasted Garlic and Onion Jam: Makes any sandwich taste gourmet.
Crabtree and Evelyn scented drawer liners: I’m not much of a girly-girl – but these make me feel like a princess.
Used book stores: I could spend hours at my local used book store – I think I could be happy shelving books for the rest of my life.

Great List! I just wish we had links to follow : (
Oh well. I love grapefruit, so I’m going to have to try out that Dove! Thanks
Comment #1 by s'meeFebruary 21st, 2009 at 3:36 pmHershey’s makes syrup with calcium? Su-weet.
Comment #2 by Heather O.February 21st, 2009 at 3:39 pmGoodreads is my favorite. I had almost given up finding stuff worthwhile to read, until I found that site. And Bert’s Bees–LOVE IT! Especially the coconut foot cream. Fabulous stuff.
Comment #3 by LaurenFebruary 21st, 2009 at 3:47 pmLove the smell of Mrs. Meyer’s cleaning products. Use it everywhere.
I’m excited to read more from you! Welcome aboard!
Comment #4 by StarababaFebruary 21st, 2009 at 4:09 pmChocolate syrup with calcium? Ice cream doesn’t have enough calcium already? I’m missing something aren’t I.
Comment #5 by mormonhermitmomFebruary 21st, 2009 at 4:11 pmDiane Rehm must die — or at least retire. I get seasick trying to listen to her voice seesaw in and out. She must be 2 million years old.
Comment #6 by JaneFebruary 21st, 2009 at 4:13 pmI am going to have to look for some of those things the next time I’m at the store (onion and garlic jam sounds delicious for meat sandwiches!)
Comment #7 by kaduseyFebruary 21st, 2009 at 4:15 pmI LOVE Kashi cereal- and would eat it every day too, if only we had a Trader Joes. Used book stores are balm for a troubled soul- the smell alone could carry me.
Some of my favorites, too…
Bubbies pure kosher dills.
Comment #8 by Tracy MFebruary 21st, 2009 at 4:32 pmGrapefruit anything.
Jessicurl Too Shea Butter conditioning creme.
Salt- kosher, flake, gray, red, fleur de sel…
Design magazines- oh the ideas!
Robins on the fence waiting for the snow to melt…
Real letters with stampsin the mailbox.
Coca-Cola with cane-sugar.
FYI–Diane Ream actually has a voice disorder called spasmodic dysphonia, where, literally, her voice goes in and out. It is difficult to manage, difficult to treat, and difficult to live with. Sorry, I don’t get sea sick when I listen to her, I just stand in awe that a woman with such a severe vocal impairment can actually pull off a radio show. To me, that shows courage and a huge amount of strength. But then, I’m speech geek.
Comment #9 by Heather O.February 21st, 2009 at 5:25 pmIt’s official. Based on this list, I’m a guy.
Comment #10 by RayFebruary 21st, 2009 at 5:43 pmWhere do you find Mrs. Meyer’s clenaing products, I need ones that smell good, and that work.
Comment #11 by ModdyFebruary 21st, 2009 at 6:45 pmAnd I ♥ dove’s cucumber and green tea body wash, it smells delish!!
Ray — I could add my prized autographed Bob Stoops OU football to the list if that makes you feel any better.
Comment #12 by Melissa McFebruary 21st, 2009 at 7:06 pmMelissa, I live in OH. Sorry.
(so I can’t let people know that I’m not a fan of THE Ohio State University - Don’t tell anyone; that’s just between the two of us.)
Comment #13 by RayFebruary 21st, 2009 at 7:22 pmYour secret is safe with me.
Comment #14 by Melissa McFebruary 21st, 2009 at 7:29 pmWelcome MelissaMc! I love Mrs. Meyers products! And football. And just about all the sauces Classico makes.
TracyM you are the only person I know(well on the net) who even knows what Bubbies are! Totally the best pickles on the planet.
Hate to break the bad news guys, all the calcium in the world in the world isn’t going to make Hershey’s syrup good now that the report is out. It has been shown to have high levels of mercury in it, along with a lot of other top brand products because of the high fructose corn syrup contained in it. bleh. whaaaaaa!
Comment #15 by robynFebruary 21st, 2009 at 11:40 pmHigh levels? The report — questionable at best, and called “junk science” by most — found *trace* levels of mercury in some samples of name-brand foods with high-fructose corn syrup, no higher than are found naturally in air, water, and soil. As the spokesman for ConAgra noted, you’d have to eat more than 100 pounds of supposedly “tainted” ketchup per day in order to consume a level of mercury considered unsafe by the EPA.
Since the Minneapolis group that conducted the study has long campaigned against high-fructose corn syrup, and tested only foods that contain that ingredient, and only *name brand* foods at that, we ought to wonder whether the shock value is what they were after, more than the public good. Especially when the report’s even limited value is being distorted successfully in the minds of the public who think 30 parts per trillion is significant.
Pass the Hershey’s syrup. I’m willing to be the guinea pig!
Comment #16 by Ardis ParshallFebruary 22nd, 2009 at 5:40 amWelcome, welcome!!
Lol, I am allll about the Hershey’s with Calcium!!! I discovered it while I was pregnant and now I’m hooked. I don’t like milk unless it has chocolate in it, and bonus, now extra calcium, which is always good for baby growing!!! Lol, and Ardis, the “mercury levels” don’t seem to have harmed my little one….so I’m with you, PASS THE HERSHEYS!!!
