And of course, I’m sobbing for more than one reason.
I sat and thought about this. WHY does Hosea bug me so much? His food isn’t bad, per se. I mean, there was the Leah/girlfriend thing, which yeah, was bad. I think, really, though, it was his attitude, especially how he was gunning for Stefan the whole time. I mean GUNNING.
And yes, you could make a case that Stefan was gunning for him right back, but I think Stefan was just dishing it right back in a manner that amused him. Hosea was out for blood, whereas Stefan was just playing a game. He (and Fabio, really) had the attitude of “oh, well, I didn’t win, I’m still the best thing ever” and I truly don’t think he has any animosity towards Hosea. Whereas if Stefan had won, I think Hosea would be bitter for a looooong time.
Of course, it goes without saying that I am basing this on what the editors chose to show me. I’m saying it anyway.
I weep for Carla. Oh Carla Carla Carla. Some people blame Casey for Carla’s loss, but you can’t really. She was just there to help, and Carla was free to take or leave her suggestions re:the sous vide and the cheese soufflet. (I will suggest that the finale is not the time for trying a new technique, although maybe she was thinking how Hung won using sous vide practically every time.) My husband and I winced, however, when they showed Casey talking, none of the other sous chefs got any camera time whatsoever. Hmmm…you think that sous vide is going to be an issue later?? Maybe?? Then Marcel was talking about freezing the fish, and we just stared at each other - Hosea is going to win! Blaise hasn’t said a word!
Side notes: Gail saying Stefan’s dessert presentation was “so 1982″. Um. What? The 80’s had a specific way of plating? Are there pictures? Can I see? Also, her boobies were ginormous, I wonder if she’s pregnant. Ah, to start rumors. I love it.
The voodoo thing was hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing.
Looking forward to the reunion show next week - my guess for fan favorite is, of course, Fabio. However I think Carla and Ariane have a good shot. See you next season!

I’m never watching again. Hosea? HOSEA?? Really. I don’t get it- he skated by, in the bottom a LOT of times, and then there he was, having a good day for some odd reason, and poor Carla… Oh, it’s just too much.
And what up with Gail’s boobies? My eyes, my eyes!
Comment #1 by Tracy MFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:17 amStefan was robbed. And yes, the dessert was plated poorly and was so 80s.However, it wasn’t enough to keep him from being TopChef. If they are not going to judge the TopChef finale as a body of work, why not just have one show?
Bleh. Carla should have gotten it over Hosea.
We all got hosed.
Comment #2 by robynFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:24 amMy DH couldn’t get over Gail’s boobs… he kept saying “I would like to concentrate on the food, but cannot because I’m so distracted.” And he didn’t mean it complimentary, more annoyed.
I felt like Stefan and Hosea were like two boys in the playground fighting it out. I was hoping for the classic game of kickball where the boys think they are the best, but then Carla gets up and kicks a homerun. But, alas, it wasn’t to be… bummer.
Comment #3 by AndiFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:26 amOh her boobies nearly poked me in the face!!! I couldn’t stop looking at them! Maybe I shouldn’t admit that??
Have you read Toby’s blog yet??? I ended up liking Toby in the end…seemed like the only reasonable one. I hope they bring him back.
Boooo! Totally disappointed.
Comment #4 by Melissa McFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:26 amI was rooting for Stefan, my husband for Hosea. He couldn’t stand Stefan because Stefan is such a jerk.
Me: “I guess I just have a thing for strong personalities.”
My husband: *Looks at me like I’m calling him a jerk.* (Which I was)
Me: *Quickly changes the subject.*
I love Stefan. Love him.
Comment #5 by Susan MFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:26 amPoor Carla - I got all teary watching her. I’m kind of glad Hosea won. I can’t stand his attitude and his blatant disrespect for the other competitors but it seemed like he worked hard, he did some research during the time he was away from the show before the finale and he put out a really great meal. My mouth is still watering thinking about that mussel and fois gras dish.
Comment #6 by JoleneFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:29 amReading your conversations about TC has been almost as having cable.
Comment #7 by JamiFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:32 amYou’ll note it was Stefan who comforted Carla. (Or at least that they showed.)
Comment #8 by Susan MFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:32 amOh, and what is UP with Hosea stealing all the ingredients? No foie gras or caviar for YOU, Stefan!
Comment #9 by The WizFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:34 amYeah, if they had considered the body of work, and not just the single meal, Stefan should have won ten ways to Sunday. Hosea?? Again, I say, HOSEA?! Why… why why why…
Poor Carla.
Comment #10 by Tracy MFebruary 26th, 2009 at 10:37 amalmost as good as
Comment #11 by JamiFebruary 26th, 2009 at 11:01 amSo disappointed. At least I had some respect for Hung. I feel now like I would have felt last year if Lisa had won.
Love Carla. Love Fabio. Are you listening Food Network? Get these chefs a show.
Comment #12 by ZinkaFebruary 26th, 2009 at 1:29 pmTHAT was her name! I was trying to think of it- Lisa- but all I could think of was The Gorgon, which is what the NYT blogger called her…
Comment #13 by Tracy MFebruary 26th, 2009 at 2:52 pmPoor Carla.
I thought Stefan had a good attitude about losing. He knows he’s still a good chef, even if he isn’t “Top Chef”.
I hope Hosea does something amazing with his winnings, because his season run overall wasn’t that impressive. Last meal may have been the best of the three, but overall, meh. Not really bad, really, but not standout amazing (also, “I’m a seafood chef and we do this in my restaurant all the time”…everytime he said that, the dish seemed to end up sucking…doesn’t make me want to ever go to that restaurant he works at).
Comment #14 by kaduseyFebruary 26th, 2009 at 5:09 pmk, I am glad I am not the only one who noticed Gail’s boobs. My first thought was “she’s gotta be pregnant.”
It’s funny b/c I see the OP’s description of the Stefan and Hosea dynamic almost completely opposite. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really like Hosea that much (though I thought he was pretty good before the whole Leah thing) but Stefan was so dang cocky this time that I wanted to smack him and was glad he lost. But alas, I was sad that Carla lost, and almost more so because she lost b/c she wasn’t being true to her own style.
Comment #15 by aprilFebruary 26th, 2009 at 5:39 pmPoor Carla. I felt bad for her. When they kept showing Casey giving her input I though, “NOOOO. Just do what you are good at. REMEMBER THE PEAS!” She knew it too. Ugh!
Hosea bugged. Stefan was better this episode and I actually felt a little bad that Hosea was being such a turd. Also, the “foam” that Hosea put on that one dish looked icky to me like, snail foam.
Hope Carla gets her own show. Hootie!
