I mean, boy, don’t Juliet and Sawyer clean up nice?
While watching the show, I had the following conversation with DH, who missed half of last season and is waiting for the DVD.
DH: “What’s happening now?”
“Well, Kate, Sayid, Sawyer, Jin, Jack, and Hurley are all stuck in 1977. But Sun and Lapedis are somehow stuck in present day.”
Then Christian came on the screen, and DH said, “Who’s that?”
“Jack’s dad. Christian Shepherd.”
“Jack’s dad? I thought Jack’s dad was dead! And his name is ‘Christian Shepherd’? Cute.”
“Yeah, well, he is dead, but nobody is really dead on the island.”
“I thought everybody got off the island. Why are they back on?”
I started to explain about Daniel Faraday, his mother, Charlotte, how Ben moved the island but wasn’t supposed to, how Locke left the island too, but ended up in Tunisia, and when I was finished, DH looked at me and said, “Wow. That show has gotten really stupid.”
Indeed.
But I did like how clean Juliet and Sawyer looked, and Juliet’s hair was absolutely gorgeous. Makes me want to grow mine out again. And Sawyer is really coming into his own, which either means he’s most comfortable when he’s conning people, or he really does have some linked with the island fate thing going on.
And did Jack really give up control that easily? That would be nice, actually, to just watch Jack go with the flow, and have Sawyer do all the angsting for once. Jack’s angst totally bugs me.
And speaking of hair, Kate’s looked awesome too, and not only did seeing her also make me want to have long hair again, but it also made me want to hit the gym. Did you see her arms? Sheesh, she and Michelle Obama need to do a work out video together or something.
Not a lot of stuff revealed this time–we already knew that Sun and Lapides had left on a boat, although it was nice to see Sun clock Ben. He’s not having a particularly healthy week there, is he.
I still don’t understand why Christian is around, and I don’t have a clue as to why Sun can’t flash back to 1977. But it was kind of cool to see Sayid meet teenage Ben. Does that explain why Ben has been so obsessed with all of them from the beginning? Because he’s already met them? And how ’bout the smile Juliet pasted on her face when she met evil Ethan as a baby? That was a clever little twist. DH liked that part, because that particular actress is in the current season of 24 DH is catching up on.
We do a lot of catch up around here, ’cause we’re slow like that.
Other thoughts, fellow Losties?

my thoughts…I AM SO CONFUSED!!! does juliet still love jack? does she really love sawyer now? who does kate really love? what happened to daniel? will they all get killed by the hostiles? who are the hostiles again? gaaah. i can’t wait until next wednesday!
Comment #1 by candaceMarch 19th, 2009 at 7:42 pmDH needs to get with the program a little.
Comment #2 by Steve EvansMarch 19th, 2009 at 7:57 pmI think it’s all gone a little psychotic. But I still love it!
Comment #3 by SherMarch 19th, 2009 at 8:03 pmI had a similar conversation with my husband a few seasons ago, explaining how Hurley’s girlfriend got shot by Michael who was trying to save his son, and so and so is now sleeping with so and so, and these people are captives of those, and wierd hatch stuff, and I don’t remember everything that was going on. Anyway, he just looked at me and said, “I can’t believe you’re watching a soap opera.”
I read an interesting idea about Sun and Ben not flashing back to 1977. We know that Ben is already back in 1977 on the island. Maybe the baby of the Namaste man is Sun, so she can’t go back either. Like, two versions of the same person can’t be there at the same time. This is Lost, right? A soap opera? So it totally could be true.
Comment #4 by GinaMarch 19th, 2009 at 8:04 pm“Wow. That show has gotten really stupid.”
Yeah, it sounds stupid if you’re not watching along! It’s awesome if you’re in it, imho. Tell him to quit watching until he’s caught up!
If you look really closely behind Sun in the scene where Christian is showing her the Dharma pic with the rest of the 06, you’ll notice a woman crouching. Claire?!
Comment #5 by JanaMarch 19th, 2009 at 8:48 pmThe thing that gets me about this show is the timing of the episodes. Like, hello! Jack and Kate and giving moon eyes to Sawyer and Juliet, but they just had sex less than 24 hours previously according to the timeline! Sheesh.
I think everyone on the island is already dead. That explains why Christian and Locke are both now alive. ?Where is Charlie? And Claire basically disappeared after her Other House got bombed, so she’s probably dead-alive too.
LOST is totally a soap opera. But its a great one!
(I think that Sayid is going to help 13-yr old Ben get rid of the Dharma Initiative and open the floodgates to the Others.)
Comment #6 by AmyMarch 19th, 2009 at 8:49 pmPS. Have you seen this?
http://the-odi.blogspot.com/2009/03/episode-5×09-who-is-this-mysterious.html
There is a person in the doorway behind Sun and Lapidimus!
Comment #7 by AmyMarch 19th, 2009 at 8:53 pmIf having my hair this length made me look like Juliet, I’d totally keep it at its current length. But it doesn’t.
We got a few more questions answered, and a bit of story progression, but not quite as much of either as I was really hoping for. DH and I got to the end of the episode and looked at each other and said, “That’s it?”
At least we got to see Sayid again finally. I’m still dying to know what happened to Ben at the docks (if anything happened to Desmond and Penny and Charlie), what happened to Aaron, how Jin and Sun are going to manage to reunite, etc, etc. It made me happy to be wrong about Sawyer telling Juliet about Jake, Kate, Hurley coming back (I had thought he wouldn’t).
Comment #8 by kaduseyMarch 19th, 2009 at 9:20 pmI just keep thinking, Ethan was born in 1977? That would make him like 27 when he kidnapped Claire and when the Losties killed him. I gotta tell you, he looked a whole lot older.
It may be a soap opera, but it is fun to watch…
Comment #9 by JessicaMarch 20th, 2009 at 5:46 amJust a thought . . . but do you think the names of those who were there in 1977 constitute “the list”? Was Sun on the list?
Comment #10 by AngelaMarch 20th, 2009 at 7:14 am“Like, two versions of the same person can’t be there at the same time.”
But Sawyer saw Claire giving birth to Aaron, and clearly he (Sawyer) was already in that time, so there would have been two of him (and the others with him). So, I don’t think that theory holds.
Comment #11 by JMMarch 20th, 2009 at 7:20 amThere are few shows that can keep me this captivated. I know lame, right? But seriously as I was fast forwarding through the commercials I thought, no there has to be more than 10 mins left.
I didn’t notice the lady.. I am going to have to go back and watch now. UGGGH!!! I just want to know what the crap is going on.
Comment #12 by SunshineMarch 20th, 2009 at 10:25 amI thought that theory would also be why Charlotte’s body has disappeared. But you have a good point, JM.
So…where is Daniel????
Not sure about the creepy crouching figure in the Christian scene. It almost looks like an accident, but the door creaking open was definitely intentional.
I thought Juliet was totally going to screw Kate over when her name wasn’t on the list! Close one
I have to say, thinking of the Jack-Kate-Sawyer-Juliet quadrangle is just exhausting, and I’d rather watch Jin-Sun romance over that other stuff. I bet they won’t find each other until the final episode, but won’t it be a tearjerker ?!
Comment #13 by HilaryMarch 20th, 2009 at 10:38 amHope Jack and Kate don’t screw up the Juliet and Sawyer thing. I really like Juliet and Sawyer together. What did Juliet mean by Fereday wasn’t there anymore???
Comment #14 by MelissaMarch 21st, 2009 at 6:45 amlol. My husband and I had the SAME conversation - he needed caught up then said it sounded stupid after I was done!
Comment #15 by SureMarch 21st, 2009 at 11:58 pmI want to know where the ones that stayed on the beach? Where are they now, and are they going to be saved??
I think it’s pretty cool how it’s all working out.
I hope next week we see Locke confront Ben. (and for the person that asked, Ben is in one of the Old Darma buildings with the other injured people from the plane.)
My guess with Faraday is that he went on the sub and left the island when he had a chance. He has a lot of work to do, trying to figure out how to save Charlotte again.
Comment #16 by SarahMarch 22nd, 2009 at 10:38 pmI LOVE LOST! it’s getting so good! i like that we’re now focusing on juliet and sawyer (who actually seem to have a NORMAL, functioning relationship), instead of the boring and awkward jack and kate relationship! i’m hoping they stay together, and stay normal!
