Best line of the night:
“You’re just jealous because my power is better than yours.”
But seriously, I have some issues. How can Miles watch himself in the past? What the hey nonny nah is that all about?
And I’ll admit, I watched 3 episodes back to back to back (yes, my baby took THAT long of a nap–what can I say, sometimes the stars and planets all align), so I may be getting some things confused with previous episodes. Sorry for that.
I really like that we know more about Charles Widmore and Ben, and, I have to say, I’m pretty pleased that it was Desmond who kicked Ben’s sorry butt when he tried to kill Penelope. Go Des.
And let me get this straight. Charles Widmore was the one who faked the crash, right? We know that for sure, right? How does that creepy dude that hung out with John Locke fit in? He was hanging with Penelope a season or so ago, right?
But I’m all confused. Why is Daniel Faraday getting off the sub? Where has he been for 3 years? How did he get off the island in the first place? It seems we have to wait for some more answers. Sigh.
I have to laugh at all the hype about the “quadrangle”. Right on the ABC website, it shows the 4 of them, with the word SHOWDOWN scrawled across. Some showdown. So far, all we have is Juliet giving Jack a cup of coffee, and Sawyer telling Kate he’s in love with Juliet, that he’s doing what he’s doing for her. And, hey, I know he’s a con man, but I believe him.
Anyways, I kinda like Miles now, and Hurley is still my very favorite. Writing Empire Strikes back, with a few improvements? If those improvements include Luke putting down the lightsaber and having a cup of coffee with Darth Vadar, I’m totally in.
Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Answers? Are you still even watching this show?

Ya… I am sooooo confused right now! I am ready for the wrap up where they explain everything ( I hope).
Comment #1 by KristiApril 16th, 2009 at 1:55 pmSorry, I meant that creepy Locke dude that died was hanging with NAOMI, not Penelope. My bad.
Comment #2 by Heather O.April 16th, 2009 at 2:02 pmNope… I’m not watching it anymore… just not that exciting. But I appreciate your updates!
Comment #3 by GingerApril 16th, 2009 at 2:05 pmI’m definitely still watching, and I definitely agree with your pick for best line of the night. Hurley is the man. Faraday is one of the people I’m most confused about– mostly because I can’t remember what he did last (before last night, that is.) Wasn’t he sitting there crying after Charlotte died and then…. yeah. Did he just disappear? Hm.
Comment #4 by Megan GApril 16th, 2009 at 2:21 pmThe show is totally confusing. Hello, even the title is called, “Lost.”
But I’ve been watching everything from show one, season one. I feel like at this point I have to finish it out. I’m going to keep on chugging till the very end and hope for some answers! Besides, I still find the show enjoyable, even if it is confusing. And I’m totally not impressed with the other crap on TV. Ugh.
Comment #5 by CarolynApril 16th, 2009 at 2:28 pmI love love Lost. Tell me one other show that has so many main characters and so much character development? I do kind of sigh and wish for Boone to come back… I hate watching it with my husband now, he can’t keep all the story line straight and we have to constantly pause it so I can explain why something was important from like 10 episodes ago slightly frustrating but I’ll put up with it for some serious great writing and the chance to really get lost into something so complex!
Comment #6 by AndreaApril 16th, 2009 at 2:39 pmStill watching. Totally love it.
And Hurley’s line about the Ewoks…couldn’t agree more.
Comment #7 by ZinkaApril 16th, 2009 at 3:53 pmI agree with the best quote of the night. Hurley is just so loveable and the best of the bunch. Halfway through this episode I was wondering about Daniel…and then there he was. Can’t wait to see what he’s been up to.
Love this show. Can’t seem to get enough, yet I will be glad when all the questions are answered.
Comment #8 by Pretty MahanaApril 16th, 2009 at 4:02 pmLove Lost & I will be sad when it ends. Kinda like Battlestar Galactica in that respect.
I liked Hurley before cause what’s not to like but yeah, this episode kinda cemented that! And it is weird of Miles to watch himself but I’m impressed that he hasn’t tried to change any of the past. That has to be a huge temptation & yet he doesn’t.
Comment #9 by Sues2u2April 16th, 2009 at 4:07 pmThanks for the update. I love LOST, but I agree it’s just getting confusing. I knew Miles was that baby, and I am sure there are so many little things here and there that most of us aren’t picking up on.
Still like the show though.
And the updates!
Comment #10 by SunshineApril 16th, 2009 at 4:24 pmI know, I was grinning SO big when Desmond kicked the snot out of Ben. Regardless if Ben is good or evil, he needed that A-kicking.
Miles is way cool. I’m looking forward to more answers. Maybe his mom lied about his father abandoning him, and he made them leave for their own safety.
How can he watch his baby-self? I dunno. Sometimes I think the writers aren’t following their own “rules”, so they need to explain. Remember the episode where Miles was explaining the time traveling to Hurley? Maybe I need to review that. Now that Daniel’s back, maybe he’ll fill us in.
Did anyone else think that dead guy looked like Hurley? I thought for a minute that he was going to find his “real” dad too. Haha. Sorry, Hurley just doesn’t look latino to me.
Comment #11 by HilaryApril 16th, 2009 at 5:11 pmOh, I’m still watching. But it’s become a bit too predictable lately. It used to be the only show I could watch with real apprehension. It was a pleasure to not have a clue what would happen next.
I do like your rundowns. And now that I think about it, that’s probably because I never have a clue what you’re going to write. Almost more fun than the show itself.
Comment #12 by AhnaApril 16th, 2009 at 5:44 pmHilary - Miles and Hurley were TRYING to explain the time travel. Neither of them got it quite right. I can’t remember who said what, but they both reminded me of various explanations from other shows/movies/books that deal with time travel. When they first started talking, I was glad that the writers were going to answer some of the viewers’ questions, but now, I think they were just making fun of the veiwers for trying to figure it out before the writers are ready to give us any answers. Hopefully, with Faraday back we’ll get some of those.
As for the rest of the episode, other than Hurley being awesome, I have no freaking clue what’s going on.
But I will endure to the end.
Comment #13 by Erin MarieApril 16th, 2009 at 8:39 pmBEST SHOW ON TV! Battlestar Gallatica was a total disappointment in the last season.
If you are ever confused, check-out http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1550612_20245769_20272800,00.html
EW.com always does recaps. It helps with remembering what happened before, the connections. I love it.
I love that LOST is smart. I like that the characters have depth, histories and issues. I love the humor, dry-deadpan… all of it. I love that with each episode you learn more, but then you find even more questions. It is fascinating.
If I was able to see my baby self, heck yes I would coo to her, whisper to her and even change her diaper. Been watching this since the pilot… can’t wait to see where the writers take us, how they end it…they’ve been brilliant so far.
Comment #14 by QueenScarlettApril 16th, 2009 at 10:04 pmI personally always kind of liked the Ewoks.
Anyway…
Whichever episode it was (episode before last or the one before that?) where we saw that Ben did not, in fact, manage to hurt Desmond or Penny or Charlie, made me quite happy, as if he had, I might very well have had to hate the show forever.
Is there anybody in this show that doesn’t have Daddy issues? (off the top of my head, there’s Miles, Hurley (though his are resolved), Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Locke, Ben, and several characters who have died)
Heather O.: The guy that was assisting Locke and hanging around with Naomi was Matthew Abaddon. He worked for Widmore, and organized the team to go on the freighter. Now dead, killed by Ben. He’s the one who told Locke to go on a walkabout while he was recovering from his dad throwing him out the window. He also showed up at the Mental Institute where Hurley was after they got back from the island, posing as a lawyer from Oceanic.
Comment #15 by kaduseyApril 16th, 2009 at 10:27 pmLOST is the greatest. It is getting a little bit predictable, I totally knew that Dharma dude was Miles dad from the beginning of this episode. I kindof miss the shockers they pulled back in the earlier seasons, but they are serving the story well. I think the best line of the night (also form Hurley) was when he said to Miles, “You can hold baby you, change your own diaper” SO FUNNY. I don’t think I could do it though, that’s kinda wiggy. And I STILL can’t believe Kate and Sawyer helped kid Ben, after everything he’s done. Crazy.
Comment #16 by mellocelloApril 17th, 2009 at 7:46 amLove Hurley. I was a little confused too, but oh well. I will just see how it goes. I am soooo glad Des kicked some butt. Can we just have an episode with Des, Hurley and Sawyer/Juliet. That’s it. Everyone one else is bugging me. Well, actually Miles and Hurley have a good vibe.
How would it be to know your parent as an adult? Weird. Don’t you think you would have a totally different perspective? Especially during those teen years.
I wonder if Ben will “remember” what happened in the past? I kind of feel bad for him a bit. I love that his dad is Uncle Rico. I always think of him throwing a steak when I see him.
Comment #17 by KatieApril 17th, 2009 at 9:06 amI watched the last two episodes back to back, and I think I spotted Ben’s one iota of decency. He won’t kill a mom. He wouldn’t kill Danielle when he kidnapped Alex, and seeing toddler Charlie made him hesitate to kill Penny. Must be related to how much he wishes his own mom hadn’t died.
Ben is actively trying to get people to be suspicious of Locke. Sneaky creep. Then Alex-back-from-the-dead tells Ben to submit to Locke’s leadership. I bet he doesn’t. Ben can’t be second in command. He’s too power hungry and manipulative.
I bet in a future episode we find out that the reason Miles can talk to dead people is because of something that happened on the island.
I loved Hurley telling Miles to get to know his Dad because of how Luke and Vader turned out!
Comment #18 by MelindaApril 17th, 2009 at 10:02 amEverything I learned in life I learned from Star Wars.
What I want to know is, what happened to Jack?
Comment #19 by Ian M. CookApril 17th, 2009 at 10:26 amThe Oceanic 6 asked Sawyer where Farraday was when they returned, and he told them that he took off on a sub to Fiji islands so that he wouldn’t tell the redhead baby girl to ‘not come looking for the island” since that is what spurred her to return as an adult with Naomi and Miles, and then got killed by brain hemmorrage during the bright flashes of light. Thats not confusing right?!?
And yeah, they have established that Widmore planted a fake plane crash, which is why the pilot who is hanging out with Sun knew that the crash was fake—he knew the pilot who crashed the real site and therefore recognized the “dead pilot” as a fake.
This past episode was nice since we got to know Miles, but I’m thinking we didn’t learn much…except that the dead guy who got killed by his metal filling was working near the huge magnet in the center of the island (remember season 2 or 3 when everything in the hatch started sticking to the wall when they didn’t push the dang computer button fast enough?)
My hubby and I think that Miles’ dad is going to be killed in the accident in the hatch that causes the computer button to have to be pushed every 102 minutes…
Comment #20 by AmyApril 17th, 2009 at 2:23 pmAmy, are we absolutely sure it was Widmore who planted the crash? We know it’s fake, but just because this guy was bringing Widmore the purchase orders, doesn’t mean it was Widmore’s money behind it, right?
Comment #21 by Heather O.April 17th, 2009 at 7:42 pmWe looked up screen caps on a Lost website and discovered that the guy in the mystery van who picked up Miles and prevented him from eating his fish taco, is the same guy that is on the island (other island) with the chick that had Sayid in handcuffs. I’m curious as to who he (and she)works for and why he thinks his side is going to win and what’s to win?
I am so curious to know about Daniel F., Richard Alpert and Christian Shepherd. My latest theory about Christian is that he was on the island sometime in the past, left the island but tried to return via Australia (while there having a relationship which produced Claire), could never get back to the island himself so he turned to the bottle (like Jack or vice versa), and was finally able to return, though in a coffin, and was brought to life again (like John). Just a theory though.
Comment #22 by LisaApril 18th, 2009 at 8:17 pmWhoa, Heather! I haven’t watched since Season 1, having promised myself that I’d rent the whole durned series once I finished the dreaded dissertation(I’m finishing a chapter today; it is imperative; so says my director; don’t you admire the fortitude with which I’m working? Snort.) They travel in TIME now? The Island MOVES? It sounds 6 or 7 standard deviations more confusing that *The X-Files* ever got, and that’s saying something.
Unless the show has changed all the character’s character, I completely agree with your titular assessment: Hurley = the best character of the bunch. Hurley, in fact, = the best character on any number of contending TV shows. Sawyer and Sayed (sp?) are hot, Jack is engagingly smart and tortured, but if I could date one character, it would’ve always have been Hurley. What a honeybear
.
Still, things to look forward to! Yay, incentive! You have, my lovely Heather, provided me with incentive to finish my chapter! (If I can stop lurking around and trying to catch up on all I’ve missed over here at mmw the last months, that is . . . )
Comment #23 by JanetApril 21st, 2009 at 12:38 pmWait, and the island RESURRECTS people? Insert *Twilight Music* . . .
Comment #24 by JanetApril 21st, 2009 at 12:45 pmaaaaak. *Twilight ZONE* music, not the stuff from the vampire epic. Though I am sitting in the Port Angeles library, a stone’s throw from Forks. Probably some vampires or werewolves lurking in the shelves, messing with my brain.
Comment #25 by JanetApril 21st, 2009 at 12:47 pmWhat about the guy in the van who grabbed Miles before he left for the island? Isn’t he the same guy who landed back on the island with John Locke, Sayid’s captor (can’t remember her name), and the other Arab looking guy? Who is he working for?
