Me: Annie, it’s time to make your bed – we can’t leave the house to run our errands until your bed is made.
Annie: I can’t make my bed, it’s too messy.
Me: That’s why you need to make it.
Annie: I don’t like making my bed!
(This fight between the two of us over making her bed has been brewing a while – today I
lost it – I’m not proud).
Me: OK FINE – IF YOU DON’T WANT TO MAKE YOUR BED, THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO SLEEP WITHOUT SHEETS AND YOU WILL ONLY HAVE PILLOWS AND YOUR QUILT! (Followed by ripping the sheets off her bed in very dramatic form and throwing them in the linen closet – then grabbing the keys to my car to go shopping – a very mature and adult thing to do).
I bought myself a skirt, blouse and shoes to ease my guilt (I’m sure those will be returned on Monday) – and donuts for the kids, as I offered my apologies, upon my return.
The sheets have not returned to her bed…not sure how to follow thru with my tantrum. I think I’ve painted myself into a corner on this one.
