Preparedness sabotage19 Jun 2009 12:03 pm

My husband ransacked the 72 hour kit for camping supplies. My son gathered my flashlights to store under his bed so he can read at night. My daughter pulled out the band-aids in my purse and used them as stickers.
So now it’s hurricane season, and I’ve got an incomplete 72 hour kit, no working flashlights, and a first-aid kit in my purse that lacks band-aids. Is it time to be released from being the emergency prep person?

We raided ours months ago when I realized everything was ready to expire. Now I have 5 empty storage bags with a few bottles of water.

Comment #2 by Tracy MJune 19th, 2009 at 12:44 pmUm, yeah. It’s time to rotate (i.e. go camping) our 72 hour food too. And the spare batteries? What spare batteries?
Comment #3 by mormonhermitmomJune 19th, 2009 at 2:26 pmI found my children hiding in the closet eating all the candy and gum. My good friend found her children taking the emergency cash out and flinging it about the room. I have to threaten with death and painful dismemberment to keep all members of my family out of the 72hour kits. When I was refurbishing them recently, my 3yr old wanted to know what they were for. I said they were for an emergency and so he went to the pack he could pick up and said, okay let’s go to ‘mergency now!
Comment #4 by angie fJune 19th, 2009 at 3:20 pmWe gave each of our kids a wind-up flashlight (nice-ish one) for Christmas last year so they’d quit using up the batteries in our other flashlights.
Comment #5 by JESJune 19th, 2009 at 6:30 pmConference time, spring and fall, is the time to re-organize and replenish the 72 hour kits! Like changing the batteries in the smoke alarms when Daylight Savings Time changes!
Comment #6 by SlinkyJune 19th, 2009 at 9:21 pm72 hour kit? I must admit we do not have one.. You need to talk to John about that. We do have a few radio’s if you ever need one
Comment #7 by sandraJune 21st, 2009 at 7:50 amNice try. If ineptitude were cause for release, none of us would have callings.

Comment #9 by mitsyJune 24th, 2009 at 1:45 amLast tornado to hit here…all I needed were lanterns and ice…which we had neither. those lovely 72 hour kits were not used.
Oh and I needed electricity…I guess I didn’t have that either. Did my hair at our local Chinese Buffet LOL
