Rick Bayless. I mean, really. Need we say more?
I missed reviewing last week due to my trip to Utah to close on the house. I’ll say it again. We closed on the house. Mmmm….yummy.
(But it was fun to watch Wylie Dufresne make all the ‘Top Chef-y’ mistakes - time constraints, etc. I think he’ll be nicer the next time he judges, you know, not that he wasn’t nice before. I just think he’ll have a better understanding. And the dude seems obsessed with eggs - I’m OK with that. I love eggs, anytime, anywhere.)
But THIS week - we had Rick Bayless asked to make street food. Raise your hand if you thought he would make tacos. Everybody? OK, then. Seriously - I’m not seeing this one as a fair fight in the least. Not that I’m complaining very loudly, mind you, I love Rick Bayless and am very happy to see him in the finals.
I would have hated pretty much everything in that quickfire. It was all - beets, curry, cilantro. Ew, ew, ew! The only dish I would have even attempted was the orange one, and this is probably why they don’t ask me to judge Top Chef. Well, that, and my total lack of credentials whatsoever.
I was happy when the salmon tartare (sp?) won, though, and not just because I despised all the other ingredients, but because Wilo Benet is fairly high on the cool spectrum, too, and not just because he looks like Tom.
(Could I use the word “because” more? Man, my writing needs work.)
I still miss Padma.
I think the pig’s ears would have been better served in a soup. They actually looked pretty tasty when they was simmering with all those veggies. I think the choice of quesadilla was the downfall, although you do have to agree with Giant Hair man that he drew the short straw when it came to ingredients. Although if Rick Bayless had drawn pig’s ears, he would have made a taco out of them. Let’s face it.
I don’t know if I could stomach tripe. (Oh, the puns! They crack me up! Not really.)
So far, so good. Still enjoying the show, and those finals should be very fun to watch.
