I have to first apologize to my fellow bloggers for being such a slacker the last few months. No dramatic excuses, just the day to day life stuff that’s been a non-stop whirlwind of busy. My DH, an undercover policeman assigned to a drug task force, has been gone all summer on assignment. My work has been averaging 50+ hours a week just to keep my head above water. I begged my girlfriend Julie, who moved to Vegas last year, to come back just for the summer to be nanny for my children so that they would have at least some sort of consistent parental contact as I breeze in and out of their lives for 3 months, and last week I had the “joy” of attending girls camp. Need I say more?
Who ever thought it would be a great idea to take large groups of teenaged girls into the wilderness was either insane, or needs to be shot. The irony is that last week, the girls were the least of my problems. It was the other camp directors from other wards that were a menace. Seriously, at times it was hard to distinguish just exactly who the 12 year olds were when considering the pettyness of some of the women.
Unfortunately after a day and a half of camp where my Blackberry rested silently in my purse having no cell towers to roam, my husband arrived with children in tow. The day before, Nanny Julie’s mom had suffered a major stroke, and while she went with her mom on Life Flight, my children had been taken to a day care center in a squad car, while my husband was contacted. Fortunately he was able to come home and get the kids, but dropped them off with me the next day on his way back to his assignment.
Now I’m husbandless, nannyless, and sleepless, but I’m still counting my blessings for they are legion.
