OK, people. I know, I know. I’ve missed the last 2 episodes. Well, I’ve actually watched them by now, but you know what I mean.
Reality TV is far more fun when you have someone to root for. And while it is very fun to watch these masters compete, and they aren’t out to get each other, if I don’t know any of the contestants, (like 2 weeks ago) it’s less fun. Still fun, mind you. Just….less.
So, I’ll just do last week’s, since I finally got around to watching it. It’s been a little busy round these parts, and I’m sure you all can relate.
This episode I was rooting for Art, since I’ve seen him before, and who doesn’t love Art Smith? He cooked for Oprah (which should not be held against him). Plus, he cried when he won. How sweet was that?
Also I was rooting for Roy Yamaguchi, since I’ve actually been to one of his restaurants. It was the first time I’ve actually tasted the food of someone on this show. It was 7 years ago in Hawaii, but hey! It totally counts! I remember that it was expensive, and it was awesome.
Quickfire - all I could think of was Hung and his cereal aisle creation. I wanted him to be a judge. But again, nobody asked me. I can’t think why.
And if this had been ‘regular’ Top Chef, that box challenge would have been a disaster. Some people would have taken the high road, like all these chefs, and picked good ingredients, whereas some contestants (Spike comes to mind) would have picked nasty stuff and smirked about it.
Apparently I need to taste Art’s fried chicken, and mango pie. It wasn’t fancy, but hey, simple food prepared really well seems to be a winning theme on this show. And my Roy crashed and burned, but I think a lot of that did have to do with the fact that he probably hasn’t shopped for years, and is used to a huge staff and more time. In fact, that has probably been the downfall of most of these masters. I would still recommend Roy’s.
I can’t wait for the finals. I’ll be rooting for all of them. It’s the only way I can guarantee that I’ll be happy with the outcome.
