Oh, I’m so excited. I thought, and I don’t really know why, that “champions round” meant that all 6 winners would compete this round, and by the end of last night, we would have a winner. My husband was like “um, no. Eliminations one by one begin now.” He refrained from saying “d-uh”, which was nice of him.
So NOW we get 5 more weeks of Top Chef! And we get to know all the chefs better! And all the fun ones are still there! I am pleased.
I LOVE the relay race, LOVE that Tom was there, and I think we got a little taste of the finals when Hubert Kelly and Rick Bayless were competing head-to-head. It looks like Monsieur Hubert has a touch of the competitive in him, and it was fun to watch.
As soon as they asked the chefs to make their signature dish, hubs called it. “They’re going to have to cook each other’s dishes,” he said, and he was right. Smarts. That’s why I love him.
I would eat anything served last night, cooked by any one of them, I don’t care. And that’s saying something, because I don’t really like scallops or lamb much - it’s a texture thing. Well, maybe I would have skipped Art’s weird reinventing of the fried egg and chopped steak. Anyway, his scotch egg looked weird. And if he doesn’t like eggs, why did he do them? I mean “reinventing in your own style” could mean anything, really, and clearly his own style doesn’t involve a lot of eggs. He should have cut them out altogether.
And so we say goodbye to Suzanne who doesn’t like to cook grouper, and may I say, I want to go to her restaurant. She’s very restrained, and doesn’t ham it up for the cameras, which was refreshing.
Final 2: Hubert Kelly and Rick Bayless (mostly because they’re my favorites and I like watching them)
Coming in 3rd, possibly making the finals: Anita Lo. The woman’s got chops.
Next to go: Michael or Art.
Winner: Don’t care. Love them all. Probably Bayless.
