Sue over at Navel Gazing At Its Finest (am I supposed to capitalize all of those words? I never know–there’s a reason I’m not a copyeditor) is helping out some cold kids this winter. And if you are a part of the solution and have a bit of luck, you have a shot at winning $25 at Amazon. Go check out the virtual coat giveaway. Thanks, and stay warm!

Thanks so much Heather!

Comment #2 by JennyNovember 12th, 2009 at 9:40 amI am lucky that I can afford sufficiently warm clothing for my children. They have boots rated to -70 F. When they spend time playing outside at -10 F, it’s necessary. Their other clothing is another story, because the budget is mostly spent on outer gear.
When my children have outgrown their winter clothing, I wash it, make sure it is well mended, and give it to the school nurse rather than our local thrift store. She always knows which children are in need on a daily basis and is appreciative. She keeps a few coats in her office for daily loan outs, and gives any extra coats to those in need.
I spent 4 years at BYU. I always brought my winter coat to let my roommate from Arizona wear it for the winter and I simply wore jackets and thick sweaters. Alaska’s climate is a bit different and it worked out well for us.
