So, how was your Thanksgiving holiday?26 Nov 2009 07:32 pm

Mine was divine, thank you for asking. I was very worried about it, it being my first since being diagnosed as a diabetic, and if there’s anything Thanksgiving is not, it’s low carb. But it worked out fabulously, we had great friends here, and we are currently in the middle of battling Christmas lights on the tree. (and by “we” I mean “my husband.”)
How was your day?

It would have been nice if we actually sat around before or after the meal and talked or interacted. The food was yummy, though. Our Christmas lights are up on the house and on. Tomorrow we will decorate inside the house.
Comment #1 by StrollerbladerNovember 26th, 2009 at 10:21 pmIt was decent. I had a meltdown at the end, and that kind of colors my perception of the day, but truthfully, it was good.
Mo Mommy’s husband brought Mr Fakey Fakerson in from the garage for me, but I ran out of steam post-meltdown and will tackle the tree tomorrow instead.
Now, I am snuggled in bed with my 8 year-old, watching Mythbusters.
Comment #2 by Tracy MNovember 26th, 2009 at 10:33 pmIt was nice. My son is leaving on his mission to the Raleigh, North Carolina area in 12 days. He and his sister made everything, from the turkey, homemade stuffing and homemade cranberry sauce. It was delicious.
Comment #3 by pollyNovember 26th, 2009 at 10:39 pmPolly, my husband’s family is from NC (his brother goes to school in the Raleigh area.) Your son will have a wonderful time!
My Thanksgiving went really well. As a recovering bulimic, I have a hard time with this holiday. I didn’t today! Hallelujah.
I got to see my biological dad for the 5th time (ever) and that was neat. My 5 year old sister who I have met twice is the spitting image of me at that age. My son (22 months) ate well and didn’t throw major tantrums despite being up 3 hours past his bedtime and no nap. My mom gave me a brand new camera that she was given and didn’t want, and we sorely needed a new one. I got to knit, talk, eat, and plan our shopping for tomorrow too!
And there was pie. Can anything go badly when pie is involved?
Comment #4 by KrisNovember 26th, 2009 at 11:36 pmWe were supposed to go over to my friend’s house for TG dinner, we have no family around here and they’re the type to take in strays. However my friend’s husband was just diagnosed with stage four cancer and goes in for extended chemotherapy today, and I woke up with a sore throat yesterday. So we skipped going to their house, couldn’t risk him picking up a virus. I’m sad because it might have been our last chance to see him.
Life is hard and cancer sucks.
We stayed home, threw some stuff in the crock pot, and watched The Young Ones all day. “Hands Up, Who Likes Me?”
Comment #5 by Susan MNovember 27th, 2009 at 9:09 amWe had an amazing time. we ended up with 26 people, 13 of which were kids, and no one lost thier minds! The food was great, the company was pleasant, football was on, and once a bunch of people left, we hunkered down with our good friends, and played UNO and Chicken Foot. The kids all watched Transformers and had a great time beating on each other. (5 boys, and two girls who fell asleep)
Comment #6 by KshawNovember 27th, 2009 at 10:24 amMy MIL and I are always the ones that invite anyone who needs a place to munch. She always stresses about the amount of food, and I always laugh and tell her we will be just fine. And we are! We have tons of left overs, which will feed us for a good long time!
I love the whole process, the cooking, the setting it all out, the getting everyone assembled. I can’t wait for Christmas, to do it all again!
The turkey was dry, there weren’t enough mashed potatoes, food assignments got crossed so there was a plethora of yams and relish trays. Dinner was an hour late, and someone thought pillsbury crescent rolls were a good idea. At least the pie was good. Not the best Thanksgiving ever.
Oh, and my BIL made my daughter cry because he told her she had to finish her pie before playing. So not our rule.
Comment #7 by m2thehNovember 27th, 2009 at 11:18 amMy food was so good, we avoided any family drama by being 3000 miles away and finished it off by family game time.
Comment #8 by LCMNovember 27th, 2009 at 11:58 amNot a regular but just had to share–spent TG with my husband’s ex-wife’s first husband and his current wife and his 2 kids (husbands ex-step-kids) LOL. My 3 step-kids with their bio-mom and her new husband and their child. We joke about having many new members in the future for the ex-husband of K.E.H. club. Had a wonderful time and am so glad that the ex-step-children are in our life. And we love their father as well.
Comment #9 by wendyNovember 27th, 2009 at 12:20 pmOurs was fanstastic. After a few false starts on a couple of menu items (and a frantic phone call to Wiz DH’s, who admonished “starting over is always a valid option”), the food turned out great. We had a rousing discussion about reality TV and blogging about sex on the internet, which I think shocked my parents down to their toes. The whole crew is coming back tonight for leftovers, and we’re planning on a power game of Trivia Pursuit. Good times.
Comment #10 by Heather O.November 27th, 2009 at 2:12 pmThursday was great. DH and I made the turkey, stuffing, and gravy. The gravy was fabulous and the turkey and stuffing both turned out pretty good and all the other dishes were as expected. Mt toddler got extensive play time with his grandparents in their spa and I got to sit around a lot which was nice since I had woken up at 4am for no reason whatsoever. Good day overall.
Friday and Saturday have been not as good, coming down with a cold and then dealing with 3 hours of pre-term contractions necessitating a trip to the hospital, but it has made me all the more thankful for how nice Thursday was, and how nice my DH and his parents are, and for the fact that the baby is still healthy and there are no signs of him actually coming earlier than expected. And it makes me grateful that my co-teacher was willing to teach our Primary class last minute today so I can stay home and sleep lots and drink lots of water and be lazy like the doctor recommended.
Comment #11 by kaduseyNovember 29th, 2009 at 8:24 amI was 41 weeks, 5 days pregnant on TG day. My parents and younger brother were in town, having expected that I’d have a week-old baby by that time. We had a delicious feast after spending the morning at the beach. Friday I went in for a c-section and voilà! A beautiful baby girl came out. I think this was one of my favorite Thanksgiving Days ever.
