Maybe it’s just the fact that we yet ANOTHER snow day, and the combination of a 2 year old, a traveling husband, and 2 weeks of the most miserable weather I have ever seen (and y’all, I lived in New England for 8 years, so that’s sayin’ something), but this episode just made me grumpy.
Are the Lost folks incapable of pulling something together that even resembles a coherent storyline? Why do we have to introduce new folks at the end of the series? But while we are introducing new characters, old characters are recycling the very same themes they’ve been wrestling with forever now. Oh look, Kate is RUNNING, and PUNCHING people, and THREATENING THEM WITH WEAPONS. Because that’s what she does. And, oh LOOK, Jack is DEMANDING ANSWERS, and being told he won’t do ANYTHING until he KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON, because he’s the leader, but damn, it’s just so hard to be the leader, it means that he won’t ever be one of his people.
And, LOOK! (Wait for it) Kate and Jack have a SIGNIFICANT LOOK, and nothing comes of it. She goes running after Sawyer (’cause that’s what she does, doncha know), and he gives her a speech about how they are BOTH MEANT TO BE ALONE.
Has anybody on this show ever heard of CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?
I almost wish that Claire is totally demented, because that would be something new with someone old. I dare say that we are going to see that, though, what with the whole “Hey, this is a Rousseau-like trap, but hey she’s DEAD so WHO could be setting these things?” clue we got from Guy #4, who you knew was going to die because we hadn’t ever seen him before and he only had like, 2 lines, and he actually was trying to give info to the Losties, and dropped mysterious hints about Jin being ONE OF THEM. Anybody who has been watching this show long enough knows that a character like that is destined to kick it. And, sadly, probably NOT be subject to the amazing properties of the island where dead people come back. Being undead was just way above Guy #4’s paygrade.
So I’m looking forward to seeing where they go with Claire, and I’m thinking that the inoculation that she got way back when is going to come back into play, which is kinda fun. But again, I’ve been watching this show long enough to know that it’s going to take at least 3 weeks for them to get back to Claire. After all, we still have everybody else’s actual reality to get all mucked up, too. Hurley still has to meet Charlie, and Sayid has to still be conned by Sawyer, so Sayid can torture him again.
Y’see? It’s all about recycling, people. The producers must be trying to stop global warming, and, if so, I HATE THEM EVEN MORE as I sit and look at all the depressing snow that is ruining my life.
Toldja I was grumpy.
Fellow Losties, please weigh-in and give me something to smile about.
