For those of you praying - and thank you! - here’s the latest.
She is currently on an ECMO machine for her heart and lungs, as she had two more cardiac arrests. However, her chest x-ray now looks better than it has since she was admitted, and they are beginning to slowly wean her off the ecmo back onto the ventilator.
The good news - her kidneys are now outputting urine, so they are taking her off dialysis. If she still needs help, they will obviously give her some support, but they do not want her to become dependent on the machine.
Her mother had this to say in an email:
“This trial is teaching me many things among them how important and
how powerful faith, hope and charity are. The top notch medical care
she is receiving from Children’s Hospital is such a blessing, but has
its limitations. Our Father and Heaven doesn’t have those
limitations. My visiting teacher reminded me of this scripture: For
if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no miracle
among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after their faith.”
She also strongly feels that while Diana has a long way to go, her continued progress this week is a direct result of the faith and prayers of loved ones and strangers across the country.
Thanks again. Keep praying!

Great to hear some good news!

Comment #3 by EmilyCCMarch 20th, 2010 at 1:40 pmDo you have a reference for that wonderful scripture? My friend has a 3-yr-old with cancer and I would love to share this with her.
Comment #4 by RoxanneMarch 20th, 2010 at 2:08 pmGlad to hear she is doing better, even if only by a smidge! I was just wondering about her this morning in family prayer.

We’ll continue to remember her in our prayers.

Comment #9 by Mrs. PottsMarch 21st, 2010 at 9:15 pmThat is really good news! I am glad to hear she is doing better. It is a parent’s worst nightmare…I know, I have lived it.
I do want to gently point out that there are readers who have been in her situation, and despite many faithful prayers and fasting, lost their precious children. You’ve got a 50/50 chance at a happy ending, and sometimes we don’t get it for whatever reason. And when we don’t, statements like that can cause tremendous guilt and suffering for those who wonder if they just didn’t have enough faith, or didn’t pray quite enough times, or didn’t have enough people fasting. Enough to say she is grateful for the support, and the peace it brings during such a troubled time.
Comment #10 by OliveMarch 29th, 2010 at 1:22 amPlease know that at least 4 times it speaks of “being appointed unto death” in the scriptures. In spite of righteous living, prayers, blessings, fasting, and faith in Jesus Christ, sometimes our loved ones are called Home.
Comment #11 by KateApril 13th, 2010 at 4:22 pmOur challenge is to accept God’s plan for them, even when we would prefer a different timetable.
See D&C 42:48; Alma 12:27; Job 7:1; Hebrews 9:27; and D&C 121:25.
God bless and sustain you.
Just thinking about the sweet girls today and wondering how Diana is doing.
