Okay, while I love love LOVE that Desmond is rockin’ the show, I gotta admit, when he was sitting at the bar with Charlie, I kept asking DH, “Wait, what did they say?” Having two men from the British Isles conversing was a little bit much without my subtitles. Now for sure I have to rent the DVD set, just so I can read exactly what those two had to say to each other.
But still, gotta say, one of my favorite episodes in a long time. Charlie, Desmond, Daniel, Eloise, AND Penny? Seriously, what’s not to love? And even if I didn’t understand what Desmond was saying all the time, I could still listen to the man read the phone book all day long and be perfectly content.
Like I mentioned earlier, DH watched this one with me, and despite him being, like 4 seasons behind, he had no problem following this episode. Which should say something about the show, although I’m not sure what. But when Eloise came on, I thought, oh YEAH baby, we’re getting some ANSWERS! Which is to say, that, you know, while she didn’t ACTUALLY reveal anything, her actions did seem to suggest that she knew they were all in an alternate reality, that Desmond was desperate for Charles’ approval, and that somehow finding Penny would be catastrophic to the delicate balance of this made-up reality. So you know, she still does know everything. Like Dumbledore. Only instead of magic, she’s got physics.
And would somebody remind me who Desmond’s driver was? I just remember that he died in an earlier season because he was somehow time-traveling but didn’t have a constant, or something. I can’t remember what his role in Desmond’s life was, though. Please to explain.
So what was that big crazy light thing in the sub, and is it like a giant MRI? Is that why the magnetism of the MRI made Desmond remember Penny? And what is his “gift”—that he can breeze through alternate realities with ease? I mean, we’ve seen him do that before, right?
But why is he so unfazed by seeing Sayid?
This episode does make me hopeful, and seeing trailers for next episode with Michael and Libby’s grave (just today my sis was saying, “What about Libby? WHAT HAPPENS WITH LIBBY??”) makes me think maybe the writers can pull this off after all. Well done tonight, guys. Well done.
