(It does seem strange that when you’re super busy you don’t blog, because that’s when you have stuff to tell. The days that are filled with laundry and dishes — THAT’S when the blog gets attention? Boring. Ah, life.)
OK, then. I missed blogging the first episode, because frankly, BUSY - and didn’t notice it was on my DVR. Joy filled my heart, though, when I saw it. Just knowing a Top Chef episode is waiting for me makes my day go a little bit faster.
The one thing I will say about the first episode - BOO to the group challenges!!! Hello, you only have six contestants. (Or were there eight? I can’t remember). You have to make them work together??? For the quickfire AND the elimination? Bad call, Bravo. We want to see them all cook individually. Plus, I’d never heard of all but one of the chefs. So, the first episode - not my fav.
Second episode - SOUL FOOD. Oh, how I longed for Kevin and his bacon jam. He would have rocked a soul food challenge. Plus, we get to see someone have to deal with forgotten stew and LA traffic. Ah….reality TV. And then to see all the other chefs help/not help was all very silly because they helpers ended up BURNING her yucca. “Thanks, that was so helpful. Really, it’s so much better than if you hadn’t touched it at all.” But I guess it did help in the end, because once again, simplicity takes it all. The stew did look good, just skip the cilantro, and I’m in! And frankly, yucca mash doesn’t sound all that good.
(I don’t know these chefs either. I guess I need to brush up on my masters. But I loved the “French guy trying to shove seven courses onto one plate.” Made me laugh.)
Next week looks fun. Bring on Wylie Dufresne! I hope Rick Bayless makes an appearance. I still miss Tom and Padma.
P.S. I wanted every single grilled cheese sandwich they made. YUM.
P.P.S. You must eat food while watching. It’s required.
