I came home from my run this morning hot and thirsty. It is disgusting weather here, very humid, but windy and overcast. I know, it seems impossible, but there it is. Par for the course for this time of year. Last Halloween, J got so hot trick or treating he ended the night shedding his costume completely and trick or treating in a t-shirt and shorts. People, bizarrely, still gave the child candy. Whatevs.
Anyway, I was in need of a beverage, and I had some Powerade stowed in my trunk. I grabbed my keys, opened the trunk, and unlocked my car. I shut the door, and leaned back on the car to drink the powerade.
I hear a soft “click”, and I realized that the car was just automatically locked itself again. I figured I must have accidentally bumped the keyless remote, so I unlocked it again, and laid the keys down on the trunk while I continued to drink my drink.
The car locked itself again. With my keys lying, untouched, on the trunk.
At this point I look around, wondering if there is a hidden camera or something, or my neighbor, hiding in the bushes, gleefully using his keyless remote to control my car. Finding nothing that even resembles a hidden microphone, I walk to my porch and put the keys down on the top step, about 10 yards away from the car. And I sit. And watch. And wait.
No joke, y’all. I unlocked the car again, standing on the porch and then took the keys inside to call my husband to tell him that the car is officially possessed. With the devil, or with the spirit of Herbie, I don’t know yet.
I have to be honest. I’m on my way out the door to pick up Little Sister from preschool, and I’m a little afraid. Not really afraid, just a little afraid. You know, in case it is (shhhhhh) a ghost. Oooooooooooooo…….
On the serious side, anybody have any practical ideas how this could be happening, so I don’t lock my keys in the car? ‘Cause you know with a malfunctioning door and a distracted mom, it’s only a matter of time.
