So my brother is forcing me to talk about this. WITH LITERAL BODILY FORCE. Not really. He just asked really, really, nicely. But it’s actually interesting and cool, so I acquiesced. (I love that word - ‘acquiesced’. I don’t get to use it often enough, really.) And just so you know, I don’t put up EVERYTHING my brother asks me to, or else this blog would talk about William Shatner and his toupee quite a bit, with some Battlestar Galactica thrown in for good measure.
Our story begins with the fact that about 80% of juveniles who commit crimes will likely wind up in jail again within a year of their last arrest.
People try to change what they do, but they don’t change why they do it. My brother and my cousin developed a course that addresses this, and, for the past 5 years, they have been teaching it to juvenile offenders in the criminal justice system. Brigham Young University has conducted an extensive research study and the results are in: the training works. BYU’s research shows that juveniles who go through this program are half as likely to commit crimes as the population as a whole. (HALF. That’s pretty dang impressive.)
Which is all ENTIRELY relevant to our readership, I’m sure. But bear with me, especially those of you who want to lose weight. No, really. Bear with me. What does stopping recidivism have to do with weight loss?
My brother and cousin’s team have found that juvenile delinquents aren’t always motivated to change, (shocker!) yet these concepts are powerful enough that they still made a significant difference in their lives (which actually is kind of shocking, but in a good way). So they’ve taken the concepts and applied them to weight loss. Simple concept: Your beliefs drive your behaviors which shape your body. If you want to change your weight, change the way you think and your behavior will follow. They’ve started teaching it, and it’s working. It’s a completely different approach. They call it the Belief Workout.
The Belief Workout has completed their first round of seminars, both in person and on line, and the results are very encouraging. People are losing weight, and, even more importantly, they’re keeping it off. This isn’t one of those lose-it-all-for your-high-school-reunion-and-then-gain-it-back-the-second-you-eat-real-food. It’s not “poop your way to weight loss.” It’s designed to change the reasons why you gain weight, and once you do that, your behavior follows suit, and the weight comes off and stays off. You know, PSYCHOLOGY.
On this page, you can watch my brother and cousin in all their glory as they explain this themselves. And on this page, there are a couple of testimonials, because testimonials are fun. And there’s also a goofy animated movie they made that explains the basics of the program. (Goofy is his word, not mine. I think it’s astonishingly good - Oscar material, really.)
They’re starting another round of live classes and webinars next week. The live classes are in Springville, UT, but the webinars are available to anyone in the U.S. I’d say “first class is free for YOU, readers” but the first class is free for everyone, which includes YOU, so there you go. You can see the dates and times by clicking here.
So take a look and tell me what you think. I would be interested in your thoughts, as would my brother. So help me be a good sister! Come on, sing it with me - “As Sisters in Zion, we all work together”….HAHAHA. That hymn has nothing to do with anything, but now it’s in your head. *chuckling evilly* *chuckling in tune with stupid hymn* *hymns aren’t stupid* *ending weird asterisk parentheticals now*
Anyway, check it out, give some feedback. It would be very helpful.
