Because if he has an ounce of sanity in his bones, he recognized that singing (or lipsynching, more likely, as they probably had it on a soundtrack) “To play Blue’s Clues we gotta find a…” for 10 years might have made him lose it all completely and turned him into a green striped lunatic.
I know this because I am slowly becoming that lunatic, having been listening to “To play Blue’s Clues we gotta find a….” non stop for the past century. Okay, it’s only really probably 2 weeks or so, but it feels like longer. Much, much longer.
I have to say, in terms of children’s entertainment, I’m actually a fan of Blue’s Clues, but my lands, when a child is determined to watch all 100 episodes that Netflix offers on instant streaming, it doesn’t take long for a mother to wish she had a sledgehammer to slam into Blue’s cute little noggin, just to make. it. stop. I mean, Blue’s high pitched “bu-bu-bu!” isn’t as bad as Dora’s entire voice, but it’s a close second. Okay, maybe a close third, after Diego. Or fourth, after Ming-ming from Wonderpets. Man, I hate that bird.
And I actually like Steve, and Joe, for that matter. A regular human adult voice isn’t hard to listen to, especially in the later seasons when Steve isn’t as bouncy. They both have pleasant enough singing voices, and the slow speaking pace they adopt for the preschoolers without getting sing-songy, like Dora and Diego, is easy on the ears.
But when you get to the point where you feel the need to break into song and shake your tail when your own mailman comes, you know it’s time to watch something else.
Little Sister is obsessed, though, like she was with WonderPets and Backyardigans. This is what kids do, I know, I know. We went through with this with J, too. Heck, we are still going through this with J, he’s just big enough to put on headphones when he’s watching his shows on repeat.
I just wish she was obsessed with something lower pitched. Like, you know, Barry White.
