So, this year my main goal is to raise money for Dr. Faustman. Her research is very exciting to me, and she needs $25.2 million dollars, currently she has $13.5 of it. My occasional 50-100 bucks that I send her way just isn’t going to cut it. Frankly, I don’t have millions, and well, most people I know, in fact it is likely that everyone I know, are in the same boat.
I asked someone who has a history of raising money how to do it. He said “You ask people.” It was less than helpful advice.
So I am thinking if I use that same 50-100 bucks to buy something cool-ish, and then raffle it off for $3/ticket (given directly to Faustman labs, so you can take the tax donation) that it might make some money. Hopefully. Maybe.
The question is, what would you guys (since you and my facebook friends are pretty much the target audience here) be willing to buy a ticket to get? It would have to be something I could mail easily. Costco has gift cards to Legoland, or they also have Nutri System cards if weight loss is your goal this year - and no, I have no idea if Nutri System works or not. I could just do a gift card to Target or Amazon.
What say you, peeps?

I say how about a Kindle or some kind of electronic device? Everyone loves them and they are easy to ship. Maybe a hotel stay or massage? I always want massages. ALWAYS. Good idea, BTW. Are you going to take me up on that bikeride thingy????

Comment #2 by The WizJanuary 2nd, 2013 at 2:15 pmI’d be in for several tickets.
Comment #3 by TiffanyJanuary 2nd, 2013 at 4:35 pmI’m not interested in weight loss stuff, but could probably scrounge up a few dollars to donate even if that was the raffle prize.
Comment #4 by kaduseyJanuary 3rd, 2013 at 8:45 amHave you thought of posting on reddit? That website gets the word out about raising money pretty well too.
Comment #5 by AmyJanuary 3rd, 2013 at 11:21 amNo, I haven’t. Teach me. I’ve never been to Reddit. Do I have to join or do I just post a link or what?
Comment #6 by The WizJanuary 3rd, 2013 at 11:27 amI don’t buy raffle tickets, but I’d be happy to donate to the cause by supporting the research directly.
Comment #7 by Tiffany W.January 3rd, 2013 at 11:47 pmI agree with like the kindle as long as you got enough people to buy the raffle tickets. the cheapest kindle is like $80 bucks, right? So in order to make a “difference” or a “profit” more than your regular donation, you would have to sell 27 tickets, which I think could easily happen, or you could do an $50 Amazon gift card. Everyone loves those, and I’m sure you could get just as many people to buy tickets for that.
Comment #8 by AmyJanuary 6th, 2013 at 3:59 pmRunning into legal issues. Was all set to do an ipad mini, that would be donated so I don’t have to make a profit on it. If I can find a way to make it legal, I still will do it.
